Unbale to install Skype on New N800 with 2008OS

Dear all,

I just purchased a N800 and immediately update it to 2008OS. However, I am unable to install Skype as the downloading always stuck at 1%. When I look at the log in Application Manager it shows a lot of couldn't stat source package list and http:// errors.

I am new to Linux and please can someone help.

By the way I now can reflesh the applications as well as it always stuck at 1% as well.

Thanks for any help from expert here

Sounds like WiFi/internet problems, not a software problem. Check your internet connection, try again later at a different time of day or different location, switch WiFi channels on your router if you think you may be getting too much interference from your neighbours.

I'm having exactly the same problem. It is NOT a connectivity problem - the tablet is sitting about 30cm from the wireless router and I can access any web site etc. Signal strength is 100% However, when I attempt to load ANY application - not just Skype - it just sits there saying 'downloading 1Kb' and does absolutely nothing. Occasionally, it says there has been a problem with the repositories. It looks like it never makes a connection! I can download .install files easily - but then nothing happens. Just what is going on? Has Nokia / Maemo dropped off the face of the earth? Totally frustrating.........

Further to last post, I again updated the OS; set wireless settings etc and have no problems (again!) getting to "normal" web sites. However, when I click on Skype button and it asks if I want to install (and I say 'yes') I get taken to the Application Manager and a dialog box pops up saying 'Downloading 1kB'. That's it. Nothing. Just sits there. If I view the repository sites on my laptop, I see them immediately. What's going on? This is crazy!

Mikeinnc,

I have the same problem with Skype initially. I finally get it installed using the Skype website link but it was after many many tries at different time of the day. It just suddenly installed on one occassion. Install software is like pot luck at the moment.

Oops! Looks like it WAS a connectivity problem. N800 was only device using wireless on the router / access point. My laptop was using ethernet and connected via work vpn. The router was not set up to point to my ISP DNS servers! Not a problem for laptop, since they were getting resolved via vpn DNS. Don't ask why some sites were reachable from N800 and others not - I don't know. Anyway, got DNS server IP addresses from DSL modem and put as 'static' DNS in router - and everything works! Yeah!! N800 can now reach the world via wireless!
Skype installed in an instant......:D

Mikeinnc,
That works for me also. I edit my connection by manually enter the IP and DNS. Now everything works. Didn't realise the Auto setting for IP and DNS makes such a big different especially loading web page wasn't a problem with the auto setting.
