ATP - The Best Memory for the 770
 

I haven't seen anyone recommend ATP memory yet so I'm going to start a thread. I bought the ATP brand and went for the DV-RSMMC rather than regular RS-MMC. Why?

1) ATP totally encase the internal components so that the memory is water proof and durable. Several reviews have confirmed this (in the second of these the reviewer froze the memory overnight and it still worked :)). While I don't plan to take my 770 swimming (unprotected anyhow) it's nice to know the memory card is super durable.

2) The prices are the same and often lower than other brands. I bought my 1 GB DV-RSMMC at Fry's for US$89.95 at the end of January.

I chose DV-RSMMC because:

1) It's backward compatible with RS-MMC and SD (RS-MMC is also compatible with SD),

2) It has higher throughput capability (even though the 770 can't reach those speeds),

3) It works with the next generation Nokia phones (and others) which require the DV version. DV stands for "dual voltage" as these can work with either 1.8 or 3 volts.

My experience with the ATP memory so far has been great, though to be honest I've never had a bad experience with any flash media. I've setup a 32 MB swap file on it and loaded it with movies, ebooks and other media. I've used it in cameras and every flash reader in the house. So far I'm a very happy camper and would highly recommend ATP to anyone in the market for memory.

Grrr stupid Fry's Electronics in the SF Bay Area won't stock RS-MMC of any variety!

Wow! That bites. If it helps, I've seen the same price online at several places. I almost ordered online but needed to go to Fry's anyhow. I guess I got lucky!

I bought a 1gb Kingston mmcmobile which is slower than the ATP 133x stuff but was $65 and has a lifetime warranty.

Since the 770 doesn't transfer any faster using either of these cards I figure the extra speed wasn't worth the extra $$. The only time I use the speed is using a external flash reader.

I can't find on the forum where, but someone benched marked the stock 64mb card with a faster aftermarket card at the transfer speeds were pretty limited. Using my flash reader with my 1gb card it blows the off transfers when compared to transfers to the card inserted in the 770.

Sandisk rs-mmc 1gb

Paid $49 plus shipping (total of 64) from ecost. That was overnight shipping. So regular would be a lot cheaper.

ATP 1 GB MMC Mobile
 

Hi, Just upgraded from the Nokia provided memory card to a 1 GB ATPINC MMCMobile. So far, so good. No issues noticed.

Picked it up at USAMemory.net for $ 50., one of the few places that seem to carry it. Also bought one of their 2 gig USB tough drives.

I buy memory modules from them for a couple of reasons - exceptionally well sealed from moisture, the reviews always rate them high for speed performance, and the specs are least for temp range are much wider. (more outdoor oriented instead of indoor only)

I would be curious if some others would look at the specs compared to the sandisk and kingston. It appears that it is MUCH faster. Any comments ?

I can see new 2GB Kingston MMCmobile in shops near me for equivalent of $48 (including 19% VAT).

As for speed, unless you flashed hacked kernel with high-speed modes you won't notice any speed difference in N770. With high-speed patch the Kingston 2GB run as fast as possible in N770 (~5MB/s).

Newegg has 1GB mmc-mobile cards for US $25 and 2GB for $46

Unless you have a high-speed card reader connected to your PC, the extra speed of the card is un-realized.

1GB sandisk
 

I have a 1GB sandisk and upgraded to a 2GB kingston. I had planned on putting my 1GB sandisk into my Nokia 6682 phone, but it does not work in the phone.

Anyone out here with a 512MB that will work in a Nokia 6682, and wants to trade for a 1GB sandisk thats works great in the 770, let me know.

I could put the 1GB back in the 770 and the 2GB in the phone, but that defeats the whole purpose of the upgrade. perhaps I should just buy another kingston.

I bought a hi speed card reader to go along with the high speed ATP flash, so the MMC Mobile to computer speed will likely be useful. It gets surprisingly annoying transferring large files when you just know for a few more $s you could have been doing something more fun.

I am not too worried about whether or not I get full usage of the potential speed right away - I prefer to not have obsolete memory around. Also, since Fanoush has demonstrated the speed hack, the potential exists for it to become part of a future OS upgrade. If not, eventually, I will figure out how to follow in his footsteps.

The aspect which is les clear to me is if the MMC Mobile really puts a floor on speed as much as a ceiling. There appear to be substantial differences in specs between MMC Mobile memory card brands. I will do some simple testing to see if it was at all useful.

Last but not least, I use my 770 outdoors about 40 % of the time. I will happily pay a premium for electronics with extended temperature range.
