Bump Media Converter fps or Super audio gain?
 

I now love the sharpness of my converted DVDs on my N800 '07 Mplayer :).

I tried the "hi-quality" 640x384 option in Media Converter - Including the audio and color gain options. The results make the Archos and Zune screens look like Coleco Vision!
(Dang, the N800 looks so good it's too bad there's no video out! :( )

Only problem is the sputtery 14 frame per second rate just doesn't cut it for all but the basic talking heads shots. :confused:

I copied over the identical settings to Super video converter, but set the frame rate at it's 23-something fps.

The results look GREAT and the motion is quite acceptable in all but perhaps the most busy scenes. This surprises me, since '07 is not overclocking my processor, so it's a very nice compromise.

The only thing is, while MC's "enhanced color" option (while nice) isn't so missed as the "audio gain" one. The audio is really, really low in comparison.

Since my experience leads me to believe that Media Converter is only allowing a very conservative frame-rate in hi-res...

is there some hack to tweak the fps rate up?

OR

Is there any way to pump up the volume/gain in Super?

(nothing about Super audio gain comes up in Google and I twiddled with the various bit rates w/ no volume increase).

I found out about the free Super video/audio converter on threads here.

It has an impressive array of options but def not just click n' forget like the dedicated Tablet Video Converters.

But when I finally got results from it, it was impressive. (If I can only get the volume up enough for shared, tabletop viewing!)

Ah yes, I am aware of that link and even passed it on in another thread. i had seen the app referred to simply as 'Super' the additional 'video converter' tag threw me.

At first glance it seems very impressive but I got the impression that is for converting video files but not DVD vob's? Which is why I haven't yet tried it out, most of my encoding is to make N800 playable files from my dvd's. Am i wrong in my assumption? If so I shall give it a go.

There are lots of threads on the forum which are worth checking out. Search under Handbrake for a start. Also have you seen this current thread?

Avidemux is being highly recommended and I shall try that one out too.

Yes, to my surprise, Super Video Converter converts VOB that I ripped/decrypted with DVD Shrink.

Quicktime Pro has many nice options and interfaces (including volume), except the VOB option is an additional cost.

I see in an initial Media Converter thread that the frame rates can/could be edited command-line style. But I would need some handholding for this, I think.

I've never been able to get Handbrake to get started or save files properly!

I was fine until they introduced the new version 0.9.1. The problem is that in the latest version Anamorphic PAR is selected by default. Once that is de-selected then it works for n800 coding purposes.

I have listed the settings and provided a profile on one of the Handbrake threads if that is of use to you.

I shall definitely give it a try in that case.

Searching thru the Super site forum, there apparently is some hidden audio option menus where one can readjust the volume - tho one poster says it didn't seem to help his own application of it.
