Requesting assistance with using Bluetooth DUN with Samsung SGH-D357 with Cingular
I've spent hours trying to get my Samsung SGH-D357 to work with my Nokia 770 over Bluetooth to get on the Internet using Cingular. I even upgraded to the latest firmware (from December 2005), but it didn't help.
Some background: I have the DataConnect 20 MB service through Cingular, and I have been able to successfully connect to the Internet using my laptop with my cell phone. I wasn't able to do so using Cingular's Communication Manager software though. Instead, I figured out how to do so using Windows Dialup Networking (which also took hours to get working). I have successfully paired my Nokia 770 with my cell phone. The D357 requires authorization each time a Bluetooth service is used on the cell phone unless you specifically authorize the device that is trying to use the cell phone's Bluetooth services. Unfortunately, this isn't possible unless you can browse the services on the device (not sure why this is), but I was able to get sdpd running on my 770, which allowed me get the option to authorize my 770 from the cell phone. The authorization part isn't necessary, but it's nice not to have to click OK each time a bluetooth service is used. I created a Cingular Internet connection using the Mobile operator setup wizard (from Control Panel->Tools). The settings for this connection are basically equivalent to the settings I have on my laptop. However, whenever I attempt to connect to my cell phone, I see the bluetooth and GPRS icons on my cell phone flashing, but it never succeeds and eventually, a message box pops up on my 770 saying "Remote server error". I've tried changing from *99***1# to *99#, but that didn't make a difference. I've also tried ISPDA@CINGULARGPRS.COM instead of ISP@CINGULARGPRS.COM for the user name (although technically, both should work, the ISPDA is for data acceleration), but this didn't make a difference. I've tried custom AT strings. I've tried turning on and off PPP compression. I've renamed my cell phone and I've renamed my 770. No go on any of these things. I've even tried manually using rfcomm and custom ppp scripts, but I couldn't get this to work. I also tried the special version of icd (discussed at http://thoughtfix.blogspot.com/2006/...-windows.html), but again, no go. Any ideas? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks, AaronL |
Just for grins, try the user name "WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM".
Also google for Ross Barkman GPRS. You'll find a webpage full of scripts for Macs but he has some useful settings. Try the other user name listed above and you might also try specifying the DNS servers by hand. Good luck. David |

What password are you using?

Aaron, did you find a solution ?
I got the same problem with my Samsung SGH-E770 |
Aaron,
I have exactly the same problem with a Samsung SGH-S500i with Bouygues Telecom in France. This phone connects flawlessly to GPRS access via Bluetooth under Windows or Palm OS. However, it cannot connect with the Nokia 770. I also tried using pppd under xterm without any success. I tried to connect with a Nokia 6230 and it works perfectly, both with the GUI networking wizard and with pppd under xterm using the same scripts as for the Samsung I also tried the modified icd but it didn't solve that issue Remy |
Aaron,
I finally succeeded to connect with my Samsung phone (only with pppd under xterm at this stage) by adding the command noccp (compression control protocol) to my ppp script. However, I still can't connect with the GUI tool even after turning off the ppp compression When I am "manually"connected I can use Manaos but not Opera since this browser thinks I am not connected (no GPRS icon appears in this case) and launches the connexion tool Remy |

That's great! In order to use Opera, you might be able to do so by following the instructions at https://maemo.org/maemowiki/DummyIAP . Does that work for you? Also, can you post your pppd script? Thanks, Aaron |

Opera now works perfectly with the Dummy IAP !!! I have attached my /etc/ppp/peers/gprs-ppp and /etc/chatscripts/gprs-chat scripts Hope it will help you Remy |
