ReactOS on Nokia Nxxx
G'day everybody!
I would like to know what you think about reactOS (http://www.reactos.com) and if it's possible to port it to the IT... It is actually pretty fast - also on slow machines (like the IT) - and you can just install alot of windows-compatible applications on it - like the hole moz-stuff (firefox and so on)... Kay |
Re: ReactOS on Nokia Nxxx
ReactOS is made for x86 architecture ... IT are ARM based ...
It is made to run windows apps ... |
Re: ReactOS on Nokia Nxxx
if you read the site a bit more, you will see this. :(

Re: ReactOS on Nokia Nxxx
Damn... you're right... :(
Wouldn't it be possible to compile it for ITs, so that it will also run with ARM-processors!? Please check this: http://www.reactos.org/en/dev_compile.html I have not that experience with linux so i can't try it by myself - but i still hope that there will be a way to do it... |
Re: ReactOS on Nokia Nxxx
Supposing you could compile it, it would still only run win32/arm binaries, of which 0 exist.

Re: ReactOS on Nokia Nxxx
I think many (maybe most) people that bought the IT did so because it's a linux device. I personally bought it because I want to learn more about linux. There's plenty of Windows CE or such devices that fill the windows handheld need. Maybe that's what you're looking for...

Re: ReactOS on Nokia Nxxx
I had some MDAs (some kinda "mobilephone-PDAs") before.
This devices always run windows mobile and this OS is extremly slow... Maemo is faster! I think it would be great to have an tiny UMPC for 250$... |
Re: ReactOS on Nokia Nxxx
I'd say go beg someone to port Wine for KDE.
|
Re: ReactOS on Nokia Nxxx
Wine won't work on the IT, because, as Benson said, there's no such thing as Windows applications compiled for the ARM chip. Wine needs an x86 chip to work.

Re: ReactOS on Nokia Nxxx
Ahh, I didn't know that.
Would there be some sort of way to emulate x86 architecture? |
