Offline mode disappeared

Hi recently got an N800 I have flashed it to OS2008. During the day I was using offline mode to conserve battery when bt/wifi was not needed but this option has disappeared from the menu any ideas ? Also while copying docs to my sd card I accidentally deleted the manual anyone know where I can download a copy so no-one has to tell me to rtfm.
Thanks

http://europe.nokia.com/A4678157 and click 'guides'.

For offline mode see page 24.

Thanks for link to the manual. I have redownloaded it. However this does not solve the offline mode question (my fault for asking two things in one post) . When I press the power button I now only have three options Lock screen and keys, lock device, switch off, the offline mode option no longer appears.

This just happened to me too about three days ago. Any suggestions? Nothing I seem to do brings it back and it is such a useful feature as the OP stated.

I had this problem as well, and after some poking around, figured it out.

Thanks I've checked and "/var/lib/mce/mode" is blank. Can you point me to a simple explanation of how to edit a file. I've never used linux. I've opened up xterm but am not sure of how to edit a file from there. I've installed emelFM2 which allows me to navigate to the correct place and open the file for editing but dosen't allow me to save changes (permission denied) so I am guessing I need to log on as admin or equivalent. Thanks again.

You'll need to get root somehow. I did it by installing an SSH server from the repository and SSHing into the tablet from my desktop, and then using vi to edit the file. I don't know what other editors it has, since I've only ever used vi.

Another easy way is to install easyroot. Once it is installed, all you need to do is type 'root' and a moment later you'll be su'd to root.

However, I edited /var/lib/mce/mode to include 'normal' and this did not correct my problem, even after a reboot. I'll try to edit it to include 'flight' instead and see if that corrects my problem. I'll post back tonight or tomorrow with results.

make sure you do it without the 's on it

Re: Offline mode disappeared

okay, just edited the file again to have both 'normal' on one line and 'flight' on the next line and now everything is working well.

I think easyroot, on which I was relying, was giving the illusion of editing because once I rebooted, the speed with which I vi'd the file was much faster. Also, despite it appearing to have taken the first time, I found the mode file to be empty again this second go around.

Thanks for the ' tip - you can never be too sure people know what they are doing :)
