Bluetooth from the top menu?

Is there a way to activate the bluetooth from the top menu bar like one does the wifi? When it's off the only way (I can figure out) is to go to the Control Panel. And frankly that seems like far too many clicks for something so integral to the device.
Tell me what I've overlooked.

Thanks.

not exactly what you asked, but close. especially if you got the launcher installed on your desktop.

Sure,

install the cpu load applet or something... the one that show the cpu/mem graph and that can run a shell cmd.

then add in /etc/sudoers this line
hciconfig hci0 up

and running using that systray applet using sudo ;)

Re: Bluetooth from the top menu?

Go to Control Panel -> Panels -> Status Bar tab, and ensure that Bluetooth is checked. The icon should then appear in your status bar like the Wifi icon. This is usually left on by default.

Thanks to Saturn for the tip. It will help somewhat.
I don't want to have BT on all the time wasting battery power, but when I do use it it should not be so many clicks to get to it. I don't understand this, since you can turn off wifi either through the top menu or from hitting the power button and activating 'offline mode". It REALLY should be an option on the wifi menu, and I can't believe that through 3 OSs ('06-'08) no one has seen that.

It's even worse than that: The first Bluetooth applet was not developed by Nokia but by 770 hackers, and it behaved pretty much as the WiFi applet does (blue: connected, white: disconnected, grey: off. Click icon to change state). Then Nokia thought they could do better...

Also, I think, something should be done to allow turning it on/off easier. I mean without having to get thru status to uncheck the "bluetooth on" case.

Pairing should be easier as well, with a auto-pair function (just like the wi-fi one) that would allow to quickly pair a headset without having to go all the way to the bt device proprieties.

The pairing you need to do only once with each device you got/get. Thereafter the connection is done automatically. You cannot (by definition of bt) have auto-pair, and you wouldn't want that to happen.
