Slimserver/770 Combo for Photos
First off I want to acknowledge and Thank Ben Klass and everyone else that has contributed to this kickbutt combo.
I have been searching for a set of apps that I would enable me to view photos from my PC's and/or NAS within the 770's photo viewer ( simialr to how mp3's are played with Ben's app). Does anyone know of any programs / scripts that could do this? TIA |
Yes, the Slimserver workaround is good, but it does only do audio.
For my DivX media player (Buffalo Linktheater) there are a number of streaming applications available for the PC. One of which is installed on my Server. This streaming media server, streams video, audio and photos to my Linktheater. I have been unable to get it to work with my 770. When you click on a link in the media browser web app, you get a text string of the form: 2001%20a%20space%20odyssey|0|0|http://192.168.0.20:8000/action/playvideo.jsp?id=0&ext=.avi| if you paste the http... string into a PC (or 770) media player, it downloads the whole file before playing, rather than treating it as a stream :-( This is clunky, OK for pictures and annoying for mp3s, but is impossible for films. Has anybody got the 770 working with a media streamer? e.g. EZLink or MediaLink? Thanks Jon |
How about .asx files?
Have you tried doing an .asx file for the .avi just to try out. It should enable streaming, havent tried myself yet, but will, if I get any sparetime...

I have managed to get audio streaming to the 770 - I *think* that was when I had Pinnacle ShowCenter installed, but no luck with video or photos unfortunately. Obviously SlimServer works so much better though :) |
Display pictures from a PC/remote X clien problem
There is a version of xv for PCs. So in theory you should be able to run xv on the PC and point the display at the 770.
(Note xv is an X-windows picture viewer program) I have tried this, and been unable to get access to the 770's X display. There are a number of forum discussions which seem to show people running remote X clients on their 770, Open Office for example. These forum discussions seem to imply it should just work. xv -display <ip address>:0 should work? How is this done? It does not seem to work for me. Jon |
I suppose the best solution would be to put up a web server on your network.
This way you can browse your pictures as you like ... Fred |
ssh x forwarding??
What about using ssh to connect to your pc, enabling X forwarding. You could then run whatever viewer you want on your pc but the display would be on the 770.

You can test Orb
With a low Bitrate (<76 Kb) It streams Video, photos, and music but only with windows Xp |
