Using VNC over Bluetooth, possible?
Is it possible to use the VNC viewer from PC to view the N800 screen using only bluetooth? Why, you ask?
Well, I can't connect the N800 to our corporate network because of the security reasons. It just isn't possible. They have disabled it somehow, so I can't use the WLAN at the work. This thing doesn't have a ethernet port so trying wired LAN is also out of question :p What I would like to do is keep this in the pocket connected to internet through the mobile DUN. I have the IM running on it for occasional chat with wife or kids. I would like to connect to N800 over VNC using BT and keep the window down in the corner. If there is a message incoming, I can quickly reply using the full keyboard and mouse of the PC instead of digging out the N800 and try to use the miniature on screen keyboard with stylus. Basically the same thing as normal VNC but using BT as the transmission medium instead of WLAN. Is it possible? If I get this working, I'm sure, I will find a lot of other uses too ;) |

It is posible to use VNC over bluetooth, by setting up a IP over bluetooth connection and running x11vnc on the n800. However, you have a more fundemental problem, in that your work computer is on the corporate network, and the n800 is on the outside (internet). Unless your corporate network allows you to VNC to machines outside the corporate network, it isn't going to work. And if they do allow it, there will be huge lag, since the packets will be taking a long way (out the corp network to the internet and back) around. Lastly, x11vnc is not built with much security, and running it on the wide open internet is not advised (generally there is not password required). You are probably better off getting a BT keyboard for the n800 (I have an iGo, which is OK) and doing your typing there. I hope this helps, Craig... |
