unable to install software applications

I have noticed that whenever I try to install an application that is not from Nokia on my N800 with OS2008, I get an "unable to install" message, so is there something extra(hopefully not very technical) to do in order to install these programs?

Your most likely missing some dependencies. If you click the details button it should tell you what's wrong (if your missing dependencies it'll tell you which ones).
