gzip question
I'm trying to run a perl script that calls gzip. It fails when gzip objects to --decompress, which AFAIK is a legitimate command to gzip.
gzip -h is useless. When I tried to update gzip with apt-get, I got the following scary message: Code:
/home/user # apt-get install gzip As an aside, it looks like apt-get is accessing different repositories than the GUI application installer. True? (I'm used to ipkg on the Zaurus, where they are the same) Walt |
Re: gzip question
Take a look at this post:
http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...7&postcount=23 In summary the gzip that comes with busybox is not the same as GNU zip. |
Re: gzip question
Thanks!
That makes sense, as does Ulysses' solution. I looked on the Gronmayer site and found two instances of gzip, in the Maemo Chinook and the Temp Fix for Maemo Chinook repositories. I don't know if either is the one Ulysses refers to (it seems too soon since his post is timestamped early this morning) but even so, gzip does not appear in Application Manager after refreshing. I don't understand why or how I can force them to appear. How can I find out where the applications that apt-get is installing come from? Also, what are all the things it's trying to remove? I still don't get waht's going on there. Walt |
