RSS, Podcast and Email questions
My question regarding:
RSS: Is there a way to set the N800 so if you haven't been online in a couple of days you don't have hundereds of downloads? If I read them on my computer at home wouldn't that delete them from my N800? I have 13 feeds that I follow. Podcasting: If I find a podcast that I want to listen to how do I get it on my 800? I have canola 2 on my N800. Is canola the best one to use for listening to podcasts? Email: Can you set the N800 to also delete email if you read it at home? Yesterday when I logged on I has over 200 emails that I had already read. Thanks for any assistance. |
Re: RSS, Podcast and Email questions
Regarding RSS: No. When you subscribe to a feed with the tablet's RSS program, it is wholly independent from your subscription on your computer (unless you're using some program to access your tablet from your computer).
One solution is to use an online RSS aggregator--I use bloglines--which has a mobile version. (I think right now only the beta version of bloglines (beta.bloglines.com) has a decent mobile version.) That way, you can use the full-size bloglines when on your computer, and then use the mobile version on the tablet. And since you use the same bloglines account for each, it won't show you posts on the tablet that you've already read at your computer, and vice versa. EDIT: ...adding: bloglines won't let you browse offline, so this of course is a limitation. What I've done is used the claws mail RSS plugin to download feeds that i might want to read offline, and set it to discard old downloaded posts after a few days. If you want to go this route, search the forums for how to install the claws plugin. |

For Email, switching from POP3 to IMAP (even better: IMAPS) will solve your problem. My ISP (RoadRunner) doesn't offer IMAP, so I set up an IMAP server on my Linux box at home, and download my RR mail. I also use Google Mail (gmail), which does offer IMAPS. Eventually, I'll have all my email moved over to gmail. There are other ways, of course. Gmail has an option in Settings/Accounts to pull email from other accounts and present it in Gmail. I just like the geeky way of having my own mail server ;^) |
