kanjipad os2008
I'm trying to get kanjipad working on my n800 with os2008.
I've successfully compiled the source from http://www.gtk.org/~otaylor/kanjipad both in the scratch box and on the tablet itself but I get a segmentation fault when I try to run it. In scartchbox: qemu: uncaught target signal 11 (Segmentation fault) - exiting On the device: Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkfont.c: line 335 (gdk_string_width): assertion `font != NULL' failed. Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkfont.c: line 411 (gdk_text_width_wc): assertion `font != NULL' failed. Segmentation fault The problem seems to be with the gui since the kpengine executable which is used by the gui doesn't segfault. It required libgtk1.2(-dev) to compile, which is not from an official repository. Could that be a problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? or at least how to go about fixing it. This is a good peace of software and very useful for looking up Japanese kanji. It even works with characters drawn with a mouse on my desktop. I would like very much to make it work on my tablet. Please help! |

Jeez, I really need this software. I've been fighting issues with CJK support & Sdict, Gjiten since I got my tablet. Please make this happen.

Re: kanjipad os2008
KanjiPad 2.0.0 [1] [2] compiles and runs fine with OS2008 but there is a /big/ but. The moment you try to look up for the character you've drawn, KanjiPad quits with message "Cannot convert string from EUC-JP to UTF-8: Conversion from character set 'EUC-JP' to 'UTF-8' is not supported". KanjiPad uses g_convert() to convert characters and string from charset to another, and libc6 that comes with OS2008 does not come with necessary library for EUC-JP.

Re: kanjipad os2008
How did you compile it?
and why are you linking to Debian repository? I thought they are not compatible. Is it possible to supply the libraries that it needs with the program and set the library path to use them? I could only compile the 1.2 version, which segfaults. How do you compile the 2.0? I get two errors and loads of probably related warnings. kanjipad.c:42: error: syntax error before '*' token kanjipad.c:68: error: syntax error before "menu_items" I don't see any clear violation of C syntax other than something might be declared in (probably missing) header file. |
Re: kanjipad os2008
On os2007 CJK the tomoe package worked from the testing repository. slow but worked, why is not on 2008?
On os2008 kanjipad (or equiv) is the only thing missing in language tools. (A way of changing matchbox-keyboard layout would, eg ru or eo, would get rid of all rough edjes.) |

I wrote an untested patch that allows compiling Kanjipad 1.2.1 against GTK+ 2.0. Make sure kpengine can be launched at your $PATH, or edit kanjipad.c to launch kpengine from $PWD. Quote:

Re: kanjipad os2008
hi ... just to let you know,
the EABI-Deb of kanjipad works flawless on my N810 .. however, it isnt quite that usable, because it starts maximized ... perhaps someone can hack it, to start halfscreen ?!?!?! ... Greetings Thomas BTW: I only installed the cjk for maemo ... then it worked instantly |
Re: kanjipad os2008
next good message ... tomoe compiled succesfully in scratchbox ..
the scim-module (scim-tomoe) also starts, BUT contrary to kanjipad it doesnt show anything when I draw ... as there are no errors, I guess it is some dictionaryproblem ... perhaps someone could look at this problem for me, as I dont have that much time the next days ... however it seems we are very close now to have a zaurus-equiv. Greetings Thomas edit: ok, seem it has something to do with the locale ... it must be some "japanese" local, so that it loads at least one dic still working on that ... help appreciated edit2: IT WORKS ... don't ask me why :-P so anyone with deb-making-ability ... please do that for us ... thanks ;) |
Re: kanjipad os2008
I confirm the problem with the kanjipad 2.0.0 (character set conversion not supported).
Can you tell me how to apply your patch for 1.2.1? For some reason 'patch -p1 -i ../kanjipad-1.2.1-with-gtk2.0.diff' doesn't work. I find kanjipad ideal for my purposes sinc I'm not trying to use it as a input method for writing but to look up kanji in a dictionary (gjiten has a button to launch it). I'm learning japanese and kanjipad is also a great learning tool. BTW I've just tested tomoe on my desktop computer and it doesn't show any kanji when I draw in the window, neither scim nor uim. no error on console, no option to add dictionary :P really strange. |
Re: kanjipad os2008
you can use the armel-deb of kanjipad from the Debian-Archives ... this one works flawless on my n810
edit: about tomoe -> I found out, if you first install V0.5 and the 0.6 over it ... it works ... dunno why, but it seems the dic for lookup you the strokes is kinda missing or in the wrong place |
