IDOT 7" ce260 - cdn$499
I spotted this on the web-site of one of our local stores:
http://www.pccyber.com/?v=Product&i=NB-IDOT-CE260 No mention of sw. but I called and they said Ubuntu (can install WinXP). The store is expecting 100 to arrive next week. This looks pretty nice - if you can handle the form factor. If it came in a tablet form factor then I would have ordered one, but I will go and take a look when they come in. I am just not sure about reaching over the keyboard to use the touch screen. Anyway, 1 gb, 30 gb hdd, touchscreen, detachable Skype handset, just about every connectivity option, decent battery life, and so on... This space is getting interesting. |

they sell this in europa as belinea s.book 1 - same spec's but with 80gb disk - suggested price 800 *euro*
http://www.belinea.com/en/s_line/pro...2&artnr=399501 edit: don't see the HD specs on that page... edit2: oke, both are "branded" fic CE260 OEM's based on VIA NanoBook http://www.fic.com.tw/product/umpc.aspx |

This is the same as the Everex Cloudbook.

Re: IDOT 7" ce260 - cdn$499
When I asked the sales guy about the OS, he actually said something like 'Ubuntu, well based on Ubuntu'.
So, as this box seems to be coming from VIA, I think that this is probably gOS: http://thinkgos.com/index.html which, AFAIK, is Ubuntu + Enlightenment |

So, definitely gOS. I wonder how many other variations are going to appear? I would like one in some sort of tablet format (with touchscreen) for use as a book reader. |
Re: IDOT 7" ce260 - cdn$499
More googling yields that this must be the 'Developer Edition' of the Cloudbook.

Edit: I was wrong, this can't fold to tablet. :o :( Also, the 'key-pad-looking thing' seems to be a BT handset for VoIP. |

The salesman said not, but I am not sure if he has actually his hands on one yet. |
Re: IDOT 7" ce260 - cdn$499
Didn't read, but that's the only reason I could see for what I thought was a double-hinge joint.
The short link swings through 180 degrees, so the screen comes out on the bottom (or rather, the keyboard winds up on the bottom of the screen). Of course, now that I look again, the lower hinge isn't a hinge at all. The device is just shaped funny. So it looks like the salesman is right, and my observations from the picture are wrong... |
