[KDE] Painfully Slow and Incorrect

I installed KDE (not v2,since it's saying that you should be booting from SD, and using N810, didn't much make sense to me) and it's both very slow (A browser should open in 2-3 seconds, but Konqueror takes even 20 seconds!) it does and the windows are not rendered correctly - i mean that for example for a lot of applications' settings' windows, it doesn't scroll down, for example Kontact) Should i try v2, is it only to me or will it be always like this?

Your issues are not "corrected" in v2. If you demand that your
browser open in 2-3 seconds then kde on tablet is not for
you. I find konqueror opens in under 15seconds FWIW.

Also, I find the maemo browser in hildon takes 7+ seconds
to open a blank web page, so I guess the n810 is not for
you either.

Or does your maemo browser really open that fast (2-3 secs).
If so, have you any special settings you could share?

Re: Painfully Slow and Incorrect

Maybe opening for the first time after a reboot takes more, but maemo browser does open that fast for me, using the default page (Mozilla/Nokia/Google page) . It gets better after opening it more, must be about the cache.

By the way, KDE got a little faster after a sequence of changing the settings and rebooting.

ummmm...I noticed that the default "home page" is on the device in I forget what directory. But it's a local file. Not sure if the graphics are local too, I never checked.

Well obviously there are trade offs with using KDE, while being 1000% more functional than standard hildon desktop, its still a Desktop Environment written for faster machines with bigger monitors. KDE has some issues on the. IT but what do you expect, it was not written for 800x480. I only compiled, I did not change it. v2 would be no different from your point of view.

Links2: Blazing Fast! (http://mail.google.com: 2 sec.) From scratch.

MicroB, launching with no browser windows open: 14 sec.
MicroB, spawning new browser window: 3 sec.

A window can take ~7 sec. to spawn, if the browser is swapped (I assume). But never if you've already got MicroB in foreground.
I've got some extensions running, which slow initial startup. These are all to built-in page, whose whereabouts I'm uncertain of, else I'd have used it for Links2 as well.

Seriously guys, put KDE on a PC with 128MB RAM, see how it runs.

I like the statment in the manual from my new Jeep Wrangler.

"system cannot prevent the natural laws of physics from acting on the vehicle."

Seriously its KDE its not pixie dust!!!!

I'm sympatico, PB. Really, I kind of can't believe onlyone had the heart / nerve to write this thread. I didn't want to say anything, and I have no idea what the details are, but does anyone think PB is actually making financial headway on this venture? I know maybe a few people have helped him financially, but I'd be willing to bet that the time put into this by him far outweighs any cash he's getting out of it. I for one, am happy that KDE does anything for me. If you want it to go faster, put it in a speeding car or throw it out the window.:) But I also think it could be that onlyone may be onlyoneofthefew that is unhappy apparently with KDE being on their tablet. Options there: delete, move on.

Neil

BTW-Penguinbait, I remember a Lawyer who did a show here in Seattle. He would give people general legal advise. He would start every show with something like ' liablity for the legal advise given during this show is strickly limited to what you have paid for the show' Perhaps a reword could adapt that as a disclaimer for KDE on the NIT ?
