phone and data plan in the UK

I'm thinking about getting a new phone (3g) and data plan. I currently use t-mobile payasyougo, with the web n walk 5-day passes.

I have been looking at either t-mobile or 3 as they seem to have reasonably priced data.

But, 3 reckon that they do not have a plan which can be used via a bluetooth phone, it's either oncethe phone or via a usb modem.

T-mobile's terms only seem to allow use on the more expensive plans. My phone usage is fairly minimal, so I don't really want a £40 monthly bill.

Dooes anyone have any recommendations? I like the sound of 3's £10 a montth payg mobile broadband, but not sure if it would work, or if we could use it.

I am using 3 with an x series silver add on £5 month with 1 gig data usage. I got a free nokia 6120 S60 phone which has hsdpa. I have used it with my N800, although sparingly as this is contrary to the terms of the contract. There have been no probs or additional data charges so far. 3 do broadband lite where you can use your mobile as a broadband modem for £10 per month for 1 gig and broadband plus 3 gig for £15.

The package and phone you are using is exactly what I idenified on 3's website as being the most suitable. Unfortunately when I asked about the broadband lite package using the phone as the modem in my local 3 shop they said that it could only be used with the usb modem. They did suggest the internet addon for a fiver, but also said that it could only be used on the phone and not with a seperate device over bluetooth. I emailed the web shop with the same question on monday too, and they have not bothered to reply to me.

I checked the website today and it says add broadband lite and use your mobile as a modem so it should be possible.

Maybe you need to print it and show it the customer service people. It is a broadband lite add on and not broadband lite.

Managed it. ripped out all the settings, re-paired the phone and 800, and reset the internet upd it started working. I suspect something on the pairing was not setup correctly under the bonnet.

I found I didn't need any special settings but I had to go into connection manager on the phone and kill the the data connection to 3 which is always on before trying to connect. Connection type packet data APN three.co.uk dial-up number *99#.

you may find that you can improve the performance of the 6120 by de-branding it and installing generic nokia firmware - it won't unlock the phone but could make it more stable and responsibe. google for "nessus" and "nokia".
