TV on the 770

hello. first off, i've never used linux and i don't understand how to 'gain root' or whatever. that being said, i love my 770 for the internet and the email. the games are pretty cool as wel.
what i want to know is if there is a program to allow us to watch broadcast tv on the 770? i feel like we could probably pick up our local channels and at least get cbs ,nbc, abc, etc. is that even possible? and if so, who wants to do it?
thanks.

If it's going to happen, it'd probably be through either Slingbox or Orb. Check them out:

Only way, at this point, is to record/capture on a PC (eg. Windows MCE), then convert that file for the 770.

Or for fans of Tivos...

If you have a standalone or DirecTivo that is hacked and is running vserver, you can use tivotool to extract shows to a linux box in MPEG format, and then use any other tool to transcode to MPEG4 (I prefer DVD::rip, but transcode or mencoder work just as well).

Just make sure you stick to the resolution constraints of the Real player and you'll be fine. The 770 blows the iPod w/ video away as far as screen real estate and per-show costs (free vs. $2/ea) :D

Orb (www.orb.com) is a roundabout way of viewing live TV if you're connected via a home network. I'm experiencing the same Connection Lost error as another poster here.

DigiTV (www.nebula-electronics.com) is another candidate since it supports IPTV over a home network and over the Internet via a Web Interface, in (I think) WMP and Realmedia formats. I'm going to play with this too, to see if I can get it working.
