Mplayer ROCKS...

right now I am streaming a video from Stage6 over wifi through my EVDO router/modem setup...all running on battery power.

It's seamless and super. Audio & video in sync. I launched it via the command line.

Only downer is audio is LOW. I know...it takes time...should that be the Maemo/Linux/Nokia motto now? It takes time? :p

I guess there is a bit of a video stutter when the action gets too quick, but seriously this is close to what I expected when I decided on the tablet.

Opps, Clive Owen & Michael Caine are getting stoned. hehehe...

yup....wanna know how?

run Mplayer from the command line and type in the URL. Now you need to know how to dissect the way Stage6 URL's are written.

It will looke something like this:

http://www.stage6.com/user/{username}/video/{video #}/{user's title}

Just get the video # and paste in like this:

http://video.stage6.com/{type video ID # here}/.divx

You can find the video's ID # URL in the address box. Just copy it and paste it in at the correct point on the command line as I showed above.

The whole comand looks like this:

mplayer http://video.stage6.com/{type video ID # here}/.divx

It's pretty easy and I found there are a lot of command line options over on Mplayer's project page and look at the doco...

Or, (I just figured this out), you could cut and paste the .divx url from the "embed video" box, but that might require lots of tricky scrolling. Probably easier to just find the id and put it in the correct syntax.

Also, I wouldn't know how, but it'd be nice to save a command line scripty thing so you can just create a shortcut, which brings up a text box or terminal where you can just quickly enter the ID, so you don't have to enter the rest of the url every time. Or am I just getting too complicated? I certainly wouldn't know how, anyways.

hmm, something like uktube that can take a stage6 url, reshape it and then feed it to mplayer maybe?

while im not up to speed on python, i guess this could be a reason to learn ;)

Yes, yes, something like that.

I just tried a video, it loaded up fine and all, but it was unwatchable. There were times when there was very little of the image changing and the frame rate was very reasonable. But any scenes where there was a large amount of movement, I got maybe 2 fps. HOWEVER, this was on a pretty high res file. I'll try some smaller ones later.
