N800 won't connect to D-Link DIR-655 Wireless Router
I just got the Nokia yesterday. First thing I did was to update the OS to OS2008.
I have two laptops and an Ipod Touch that connect to our wireless network with no problem so I know the router is good. I can take the Nokia N800 to the local Panera and it connects to the wifi network there OK so I know the Nokie is good. But no matter what router configuation I try, I cannot get the N800 to connect to the my D-Link DIR-655. Hardware version is A3. Here's what I've tried: 1. Updated router firmware to latest version 1.11 2. Varied security mode between secured and unsecured 3. Varied WPA mode between Auto (WPA or WPA2) and WPA Only 4. Varied 802.11 mode between n and b and g mixed, b only, g only, and b and g mixed. 5. Rebooted the router 6. Powered the router off and on 7. Varied the wireless channel 8. Varied the transmission rate Anybody else have this problem? I'm beginning to think my only solution is to get a wireless G router and bridge it to the D-link. |

Try varying the basic rate and transmission rate. Also, check if you have MAC or max dhcp user restrictions.
Also, try using WEP and remember to key in your pass in hexadecimal. |
Re: N800 won't connect to D-Link DIR-655 Wireless Router
Problem solved with help from D-Link Technical Support. The router comes with trial software "Network Magic". It configured the router to turn on an advanced feature "MAC filtering" which only allows customer specified devices to connect to the router. I got the Nokia after the trial software period had expired and I attempted to manually add the Nokia device to the network without their software. After tech support helped me turn off MAC filtering, the Nokia connected successfully.

MAC filtering works great if you know what you're doing. That was my problem. When it comes to wireless networking I'm a newbie. My initial devices were configured for me by the trial software. I tried to add the Nokia N800 manually after the trial period expired, and not knowing about MAC filtering, I could not get the device to connect no matter what I tried. The MAC Filtering configuration is not on the Setup tab. I found out from tech support it's on the Advanced tab.

You've changed 'Advanced' settings on a network device, resolved a problem and didn't create any new problems. I'd say you've graduated wireless newbie school. :) |

Re: N800 won't connect to D-Link DIR-655 Wireless Router
I had to disable the WPS setting of the DIR-655 under the advanced wireless settings to get my N800 to connect. I had tried change WPA types, authentication methods among a few other things and the WPS setting was the only thing to allow it to connect.
