N800 or Router???

Hi guys,

I need help. I've been using my N800 for 2 months and for Wireless connection , I have a problem.

In my home network, I can connect to the router (Netgear) but I can only connect for a few minutes after that it stop to receive data from the network. I have to either refresh it or reconnect again but it is very annoying especially when I want to watch Youtube. It doesn't want to buffer and It only can play for a while and then stop at all.

on the other hand, in my work place, I can get their wireless connection and I can watch youtube very smooth.

I assume the problem is with my Netgear router. the router that they have in my work place is Linksys.

Do I have to change the router to Linksys or I can setting it on my Netgear router?

Thanks in advance

I doubt the trouble is the brand of router. Possibly model, or possibly your specific unit has a hardware failure? But it could, I suppose, be settings as well. Make sure everything is set sanely, could be related to DHCP?

Also, it could be a simple matter of antenna power and directionality, and distance and intervening obstacles...

I don't know much about this things... but if for distance problem, I don't think so.... I stand in front of the router but still can't watch youtube which is my main problem.... I'm so desperate and think about getting the new router but I'm afraid if I just waste my 50 bucks for nothing...

Advice please....Thank you

Are you running OS2008? If so, the Power Save Mode implementation in the new OS is too aggressive for a lot of routers. On your tablet, go to the connection manager and in the drop down menu select Tools->Connectivity Settings. Choose connections then edit the connection that's a problem. Under advanced there's an entry for power save mode. Drop that down to intermediate and see if that fixes your problem.

You may also check if there is firmware update available for your router... It may help.

I use my N800 at home with a Netgear WGR614v4 router, and it doesn't seem to have any problem maintaining a connection. Could be an interference problem? Try changing channels.

You could try also the following(when you are disconnected):
Code:

gconftool-2 --set --type int '/system/osso/connectivity/IAP/wlan_sleep_timeout' '1000'
to put back in default value:
Code:

gconftool-2 --unset '/system/osso/connectivity/IAP/wlan_sleep_timeout'
You can search for the explanation here (Milhouse's post) or in the bugzilla.

I got a Zonet router from newegg for $30 shipped, and it was easy to set up and it never drops the connection.
