Strange URL redirect
Hi All,
Just started using my new 770. I found an odd issue that I hope you all can clarify. I am running IIS on a box (called "influx") on my network that I develop web sites on. It's not publicly available. When I put the URL to the box in the browser on my 770 (connected via the same router and DHCP server) the resulting web site kind of shocked me. It was called "boobsville.com" and was, well, one of those kinds of sites. Obviously, the 770 doesn't have a DNS entry for my internal site, but why on earth did I get redirected to a porn site? Also, what file on the 770 would act as a hosts file similar to windows where I can set a static IP address/domain name association? Guess I best brush up on my linux skills.... Thanks for any help, GT |
OK, just discovered the web page suffix field in the settings of the browser. it was appending .com to my influx, which is indeed boobsville.com.
now i got to figure out how to edit /etc/hosts.... |
i've found that i needed to have my router/dhcp server pretend to have a domain to reliably reach machines on my local network. for ex, influx.mydomain.com instead of just influx. the setting in the web browser where it appends .com is useful enough that i like to use it.
