Make friends, PLZ leave your IM here
Hi guys,
i think almost all guys with internet tablet have a IM account, like Gtalk, MSN, why can not we paste our IM here, and then if anybody gets problem, can find help online, also it's a platform of communication. On our tablet, we can use pidgin which with almost all kinds of communication protocol. ^_^ Format is <IM account><IM(gtalk, MSN, yahoo messager...)><Country> Please! ^_^ mine: alex.hao.zheng@gmail.com-Gtalk-China |
Re: Advise to build a Online Help
I seriously find IM "help" a waste of my time. I can use a search engine and find the info I need most times. Better to build a list of solid Linux Reference sites.
I found a decent command reference site tonight first time I looked: http://www.oreillynet.com/linux/cmd/ |
Re: Advise to build a Online Help
But i think it's not only "help", but a communication platform. Although we have our forum here, somethimes chat with others via IM is more convenient, also we can have IP calls, any way it's just my thought.

Re: Advise to build a Online Help
What is the best way to get online in China for a visiting of 3 month duration?
In US, I subscribe to cable service, about US$50 a month, stay connected 24/7/365. Or I travel with my N800 tether to my cellphone, I have an unlimited plan, get online whereever cellphone signals are. In HK, I bought PCCW mobile, get Wifi on most 7eleven convenience stores and phone boothes. I think it was $US20 for a month. Service is alright and there are many 7eleven and phone boothes. What would you recommend to get in China for similar package, either cell phone tether or cable service (Not the one that requires an expansive installation)? TIA, bun |
Re: Advise to build a Online Help
I'm leaving for China tomorrow for 10 days. Google has no maps for the area I'm going (Shen Zhen) Not far from Hong Kong. So I downloaded satellite maps for the area to help me get around. I hope my hotel (Crown Plaza) has decent internet access so I can connect to my slingbox to watch some American TV at night. Although it will be daytime TV as they're 12 hours away.

Re: Advise to build a Online Help
China map in Chinese, though, only if you know Chinese language.
__________________________________________________ ______ Well, google does provide a detailed version of Chinese map, only in Chinese: http://ditu.google.cn/maps?hl=zh-CN&tab=wl It gives the zoom level from 0 to 17 as well, the url is like http://servicetile.mapabc.com/google...=&y=%d&zoom=%d In Canton, level 0 Guazhou city map block looks like http://servicetile.mapabc.com/google...oom=0&s=Galile It works exactly same as the English version google map, just with some url address changes. The coordination numbersing uses the same system. The only thing you need is knowing Chinese to use it. If you don't know, a detailed version English map is useless anyway, since in China they don't label street in English and most guys don't know how to name street in English. __________________________________________________ ____ From the the same threads, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...t=4691&page=52, threads #511, 512. Strongly recommand this one, __________________________________________________ ______ In HK, I bought PCCW mobile, get Wifi on most 7eleven convenience stores and phone boothes. I think it was $US20 for a month. Service is alright and there are many 7eleven and phone boothes. __________________________________________________ ______ If you can find out whether PCCW works there or something equivalent. In HK, since there are so many 7elevens and they are very close to bus stations, most of the time, I can catch internet while on bus! Hope this helps, bun |
Re: Advise to build a Online Help
Hi Bun, i don't know which city you are going to vist, but here is so less wifi hotspot in mainland of China, also i think you know that here is no 3G network. But my suggestion is still connect your N800 to cellphone to get online. Thus you can get online anywhere. Some of big cities have EDGE networks. I'm in Dalian, i'm using the service of China Mobile. (there are two providers, China Mobile and China Unicom. China Mobile provides GSM netwrork, Unicom provides both GSM and CDMA). The cost is 20 RMB (around 2.8 $) for 50Mb per month. also there are other packages, more payment for more Mb. but to me it's enough, since in my place i have a connection, no use to get online via cellphone. I hope this is what you need.

I have a good friend who came here from China over 20 yrs ago. We both about the same age. Got too be friends via business. He was a parts vendor...Iwould tease him about his english and he would tell me off in Mandarin...we lost touch over the past few years as we both changed jobs...but I discovered Thai Iced tea from him & he learned how not to hook his driver off the first tee from me. But most of all I enjoyed learning the cultural differences... So, wonderful to meet you and hope we encounter each other in future treads. ;) |
