Automatically launch brower on startup - Help - n800 os2008
 

Hi,

I want to automatically launch the browser full screen when the n800 is powered on. I would also like to automatically zoom to x%.

Any ideas if this is possible? It's for a good cause...

(background info) I'm using n800's for a charitable project, putting them in the hands of cancer patients for use during their chemotherapy sessions. Most patients are older, so I want to set up a default home page full of easy to navigate links, and automatically zoom to 200% or so, so that they have an easier time seeing and using the screen.

you can edit the micro b font size by entering about:config into the address bar and changing the value of font.minimum-size.x-western to a higher text value

There's also a thread somewhere that someone created a homepage file that you store locally on the machine. Gives you big buttons and whatnot. I'll try to link back and give you a screenshot tomorrow. That would solve half your problem.

I had searched for a way to do this earlier and couldnt get enough info. I found this thread below which slightly mentions this topic.

A suggestion, since N800 may not always be switched on and off, it would be better to provide a shortcut icon on the desktop to the application/file you want to launch, using 'simple launcher' app.

Thanks RTbar, I was able to log in to the about:config (no underscore as the forum parses the text i suppose) and I see a bunch of font.min-size variables, but no font.minimum-size variable - running os2008 on the n800, any idea? Or did you intend that I add a new variable alltogether?

Thanks Varghese, I have the web shortcut app with a custom image link on the desktop - is this what you are referring to? I don't have a simpler launcher app on my applet list, and didn't see it in the application catalog either.

Thanks for the help RTbar - I set the variable to 20 and the resulting font size reads at about a 150% zoom level by default - just what I was after! The only issue now is that some pages render with overlapping text, because they are 100% width tables with hyperlink menu's spaced out in smaller fonts - when we force them to use 20 point, they overlap. I think the solution for my specific problem lies in educating the users on what the zoom buttons on the top of the device are for. My challenge is quickly training users on how to use the very few less-intuitive features of the n800.
