I tried it out...while I think I like trying to get GoogleGears working instead this version of a WebOS is kinda nice. The games are silly and fun and easy for us old folks. :)

Wow your browser starts fast. When I launch my browser, it says "Starting Browser" and then "Updating..." for a while, then it loads the start page.

Same here, although launching bookmarks directly works fine.

what's the point of a WebOS if you can have all that stuff native on 2008?

not a flame, just curious.

I didnt write this...

Some people seem to be asking what the purpose is to a web based desktop. I have used Goowy for quite some time and see potential for it. Another interesting one is Laszlo Systems, whose demo is absolutely amazing. In any case, both desktops are useful to people in that the same desktop can be accessed from anywhere that has internet access. That way, you can create your own “home” computer desktop anywhere you log on to the Internet. I also enjoy having the subscription widgets and knowing that I can access them easily as well. :-)

A really good answer.

I would like to be able to run apps that are really too high-powered to run directly on my N800. For example, somebody was asking about sound editing on the N800 the other day, so something like SoundForge would be handy. I always wanted to have Dreamweaver available, or something like it. Maybe a C compiler would be nice.

Instead, these demos always feature apps that I am not particularly interested in. Mail? What's wrong with Google Mail or Yahoo Mail? Games? Who cares that much about games?

Well, there is NVU, poor man's Dreamweaver:

It is open source. No idea if you can port that to NIT.

Re: WebOS working !!! [YouTube Video]

Yes, but NVU doesn't work with a webos, so it doesn't have much to do with the topic. I was saying that I would like a web os that supported apps of this kind.

NVu is based on Mozilla so I doubt that it'll be easy to port ...
