Cannot Pair iGO keyboard

Hey everyone.

I'm new here, and I am having a problem.. hah..

The iGO keyboard i purchase cannot be paired with my n800... I've updated the firmware of the n800 to OS800.

I have searched and I've followed the instructions as many of your have described... but....

When I follow the steps from clicking on PAIR, a window with the security pass pops up. I take down the four digit pass. I then click "OK" like everyone says to... But before I get a chance to press the blue Fn button and enter the four digits, the n800 tells me it's unable to pair the device... Any ideas how I can get them paired?

Thanks

Re: Cannot Pair iGO keyboard

are you adding through

Control panel - General - Bluetooth keyboard

or

Control panel - Connectivity - Bluetooth - Devices?

I could only get it to work going through Control panel - Connectivity - Bluetooth - Devices

I remember how frustrating this was for me, too! In my case, the culprit seemed to be that I had gotten the keyboard paired, THEN upgraded to 2008OS, THEN restored. Then I had precisely the problem you did.

To fix it, I did roughly this:

1. install the xterm app
2. install gainroot
3. install nano (a non-graphic editor)
4. went to the terminal, then became root, then edited the files in
/var/lib/bluetooth/00... (where the 00... stands for the Mac address of the N800)
to remove all the lines that referred to the Mac address of the keyboard.
5. try to pair again. After all the above, trying to pair worked correctly (as in, "it actually gave me time to try to type in the pairing code").

If you DIDN'T have it working before, I don't know as this will help. If it looks like this might help you, but you haven't a clue how to do step 4, just let me know. It was tedious, but not impossible.

If you hadn't paired anything else before, it's easier just to

rm -Rf /var/lib/bluetooth/<your mac address>

then cycle the power. In my case, I had to remove the battery as well. Then power on and go through the pairing process again. You may have to do this a few times to get it to work.

This is a known bug.

I don't suppose any of your smart people out there would be willing to put together a small package that will do this fix without a person having to use xterm and gainroot??

I'm sure the folks out there who are command-line-phobic would be appreciative.

I have not had any problems with my igo keyboard connecting with OS2008.
I open the control panel and tap bluetooth keyboard. Open you igo keyboard amd presscontrol and both function keys to seegreen flashing light.
Tap 'pair' on the n800 and it will search and hopefully find your keyboard and select it. you will see a code 'four digits'
hold the blue function key and type these numbers, tap ok on nokia and press enter on keyboard
This should get you connected.

I've tried that. After I have typed the four digits into the keyboard, then press Enter, then tap on OK on the n800... I get the message "Pairing Failed. Try again?"

Does the keyboard have an innate passcode that's default? I remember reading about it, but I no longer have the manual, nor can i find the one for the "nokia other"

Re: Cannot Pair iGO keyboard

You are getting to the right point. The keyboard does not have an inate code. It does sometimes take a few tries. If you don't get connected by third try. cancel out and start over. good luck
there was a long thread on these keyboards a couple of months ago.

Re: Cannot Pair iGO keyboard

I am unfamiliar with command line instuctions, linux, gainroot. I used my Sierra 5 line ThinkOutside keyboard under 2007. I upgraded to 2008 and now the keyboard won't pair. I get the immediate message about pairing failed.

I would certainly appreciate a package to download which might ease the process of deleting the appropriate files. I've enjoyed my n800 for about a year and i don't want to mess it up.

Would be great to have the keyboard back.

Thanks for your help.
Doug
