accessing PC remotely
I use Orb, and i absolutely love it! I love being able to access all my files and all, and its great.
but im wondering now, is it possible to access my Windows Vista and my software? (kinda like netmeeting - idk what its called now, i used that once back in 1999) all i wanna do is control windows. to see, just have a streaming capture of the screen my goal is to play some sort of Halo on my PC and control and view it using my N800. |
Re: accessing PC remotely
Try doing a search for VNC or Remote Desktop on this forum
Forget about playing Halo via the N800 on your PC. |
Re: accessing PC remotely
logmein.com is a simple way to get your desktop on the N800. You have to run a virtual keyboard on the desktop if you want to do any typing. If your desktop taskbar is hidden, it may be problematic to make it visible. And you won't be able to watch a movie or play a video game.
rdesktop is notoriously unreliable. It seems to run once if you are lucky and that is it. |
Re: accessing PC remotely
rdesktop - easy and simple to use. no additional software needed on ur pc unless ur runnin xp home.
Try searching for rdesktop I've posted in a few threads containing information about it... |
Re: accessing PC remotely
rdesktop (rdesk) works for me. I just use the CLI (Command Line Interface) or get GRCM to make it automatic. I use XP Home and I was able to make it work.

Re: accessing PC remotely
I also have xp home and have been unable to get rdesktop to work, do I need to download anything else to make it work? Thanks, Steve

Re: accessing PC remotely
On my pc with xp I use TightVNC and on the n800 I use VNC viewer.
It takes about four minutes to be up and running. Go into your apps manager on n800 and install VNC viewer. Then go to this website below and download TightVNC. Follow instructions on app and your up in a few minutes controlling your PC with XP. The critical part is getting IP address of pc and IP address of n800(they might be different). Setup password and you are up and running. https://garage.maemo.org/frs/downloa...N800_armel.deb |
Re: accessing PC remotely
I've been trying this for hour now. Installed VNC server on windows xp machine (home ed). Installed vnc viewer on n800. Set up password on windows machine. Did ipconfig to get the ip address which is the same as the one mousing over the icon in the icon bar. Typed ip address into n800 vnc viewer box. Won't connect. No firewalls going on. Help.

It works great, except if your NIT is a n810 and in the server side you are using x11vnc (linux). In this case, each key you type with the hardware keyboard, gets doubled in the vnc session (except keys which generate non-printable chars). Happily, there is a work-around. Use the switch -ignore-dups when lauching x11vnc in the server side. For more information about extra security using VNC over shh tunnels, see the thread http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...hlight=vnc+ssh specially at the end. |
