Near the end of the N800 Road

Having read this:

http://www.electronista.com/articles...go.iphone.gps/

There would go my last reason to hold onto the n800. I love Maemomapper. And it's the only reason I did not jump to the iPhone or Touch but if the linked report is true and it works with ny Holux Gpslim and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, it'll be bye bye N800.

The dock connector is barred from the SDK. The bluetooth will be as well.

Don't get your hopes up.

I doubt that Bluetooth connector will be off limits. In fact I doubt that the BT connection is even blocked given that until now no applications could "legally" be put onto the iPhone. I could care less about the dock connection as I'll need that for charging the thing during long distance drives.

If you really want a GPS, get a Garmin. Nothing else will satisfy.

Yes, but it seems something else does satisfy:

AFAICT bluetooth will *not* be accessible from applications made with the SDK. If someone finds a hack around it Apple will just bar their app from the "App Store." That means no bluetooth keyboard support, no bluetooth gps support, no serial-over-bluetooth support. As many purchasers of the Nokia Internet Tablets learned, "Don't purchase a device based on what you think it might be capable of, buy it based on what it *is* capable of."

Bluetooth, Flash and ability to run background apps. External stereo speakers built in. Stylus. Not tied to iTunes... not bidden to your Apple overlords.
