n810 Bricked

Right so I was trying to get PAN working over Bluetooth, so I was logged into root and was running some scripts. I changed some files but nothing major. Turned it off and now I cannot get anything but the Nokia Logo in the center of the screen.

I have tried removing the battery, I have tried reflashing. The problem is that it wont boot into the nokia logo when I want it to, which is when I am holding down the swap button for a reflash. I this morning updated to the latest version, followed the instructions pretty strictly, and it worked for the entire morning, even got an OpenSSH server running on it.

I am a bit of a noob to linux, I am pretty sure the problem is Software, because I had no hardware problems before hand. I just don't no how to fix the problem. None of my friends have Nokia n810s, so little hope for another testbed.

Pity I really liked it up until it died. This is my last effort after 6 hours of trying to fix it, next I call Nokia.

have you tried plugging it into the charger? Does it start charging (flash green light)? If yes, wait until a minute or so until the "charging" text appears and then, when it's charging, try to start it again (still plugged in). There's plenty of threads here about the N810 not booting up - taking out the battery for a while and then plugging it into the charger and then booting works for me. Good luck.

I had mine so jammed up that it took about two and a half minutes to get the NOKIA screen with the little blue progress bar... literally it would just sit there with no indication it was doing anything. Be sure you're waiting at least a few minutes before giving up on it.

Once I reflashed that bad boy its back to booting fully in around 30 or so seconds.

Have the same problem now -- takes forever to boot (or maybe more like 3 minutes). Some app is probably leaking memory like a sieve, but I have no idea which one it might be, but while reflashing the tablet might help, I'll still need to install my usual apps, and that's just time consuming :(

Na I have tried removing the battery and charging it up. The Charging light does not come on and neither does the icon in the middle of the screen.
I have tried re flashing. I left it sitting on the Nokia screen for about 2 hours while plugged in, it didnt change a thing.
The only way to turn it off is to remove the battery.

Any other ideas. I think I may as well start trying to return it...

Is there a way to force flash the firmware, plug it in to the USB and force the flash without having to start it holding the swap button?

There are two-
1. (easy, might not work of your bootloader's fried)- plug in the power adapter on the IT, then plug in USB, then power on.

2. (Emedded system olympics)- Cold flash the device. Requires specialized interface(usb->serial+hardware to attach to pads on PCB under battery, and a linux computer to flash from. But will unf**k almost anything you can do to it software-wise.

Try #1 before you try to return it at least... If you can't return it, Nokia will cold-flash it for you...

Cheers,

I just really didn't want to pay again for the use of my n810.
Tried 1, didn't work.
Contacted Nokia and they gave me a location 2 hours away where hopefully they are trained to do this.

Cheers for the help.

Update-->
There is no place in my country that can apparently cold-flash this, so I am gonna try make my own cold-fashing hardware.

Has anyone done this, any places to get information on pins, and protocols, even instructions??

The flasher tool usage page on the maemo site is likely the best information you're going to come by.

gnexus was working on this for a time, and pschaff has also shown interest. You might try checking in with them.
