UKMP and Ogg Support

Nokia N800
Software 2008 version 2.2007.51-3
UKMP v 1.71
Ogg Support v0.6

A few months back all was well with UKMP and Ogg, now the sound quality is very poor, distorted and fuzzy.

I assumed that I must have installed apps that created a conflict so I have made a fresh install of the latest 2008os and clean install of UKMP and Ogg support.

The bad sound quality remains.

Judging by these threads this seems to be recurring theme

It is easy to get the impression that ogg support is broken in os2008.

A Search of the forum does not reveal much current information. So if anyone has any ideas how to fix this, I would love to hear them.

Re: UKMP and Ogg Support

This is probably not helpful, but I have been using Kagu with mplayer on the backend (it is possible to select different players behind the scenes) playing Oggs, and it plays quite well.

Perhaps an easy test would be to install mplayer and play an Ogg from the terminal just to check the quaility before you think about installing Kagu (which requires python)

Thanks for the suggestion, but the last time I tried Kagu didn't recognise my ogg files. Has that changed? It is easy enough for me to find out for myself and I shall install it shorftly.

Canola doesn't see them either, but UKMP was always sweet - until recently that is.

Presently i am copying over my oggs on to my Zaurus, at least that works.

My .ogg files sound fine in the default media player, but they sound absolutely terrible when played in UKMP.

Thanks for keeping the thread alive, it is disappointing not have heard from the developer.

Canola, at least, are making efforts to solve the problem

there is a suggested solution in the last post which I haven't tried because it means editing a file in a hidden directory.

Neither Nokia nor GPE File Managers permit access to hidden files so I am stuck with my limited cli knowledge.

use the emelfm2 filemanager

Thanks for the tip. I need to spend some time coming to grips with the interface and icons but the green H for hidden does the trick.

Of course I can't find the directory/files referred to in the Canola Ogg thread but that is a different matter.

Re: UKMP and Ogg Support

vi ~/.atabake/config would do it, assuming you have experience with vi but that would only work for canola.

@denny

UKMP uses mplayer which seems to have bad ogg support.

Thaks for the tip but I have no idea what vi is.

The emelfm2 file manager should be able to do it but I don't seem to have a directory /.atabake. I am assuming it is in root and not a sub directory otherwise the OP would have quoted the full path?

Ah well, however hard I try to be a geek, I constantly fail to make the grade.

OMG :P

Nah, lol, no ~ = your home directory. In this case, it means /home/user/.atabake/config
