N800 Boots, But No Control

Have had the N800 for 4 months now, it's been fantastic. Have lots of apps installed and experienced the usual dance with trying to get everything working as I want but generally I get by.... until yesterday.

The tablet hung whilst dragging files to my 8BG USB memory stick using having launched usbcontrol to gain access to it. Since then I have been unable to use the N800. Here are the symptoms;-

Device boots successfully but before the screen displays it's standard icons and wallpaper a completely white panel with no controls on it displays. This panel has control and prevents any interaction with the tablet. The only button sequence that interrupts the machine is the power button. Pressing this allows me access to the Lock, Offline, Power Down menu, and the tablet recognizes and responds to what I ask it to do, unfortunately though I cannot get rid of the blank panel.

Have powered down, removed the battery, removed the internal memory but the fault remains - no control over the tablet due to the blank panel.

It's like I have a rogue program that is failing to initiate correctly when starting the O/S. Unfortunately I have no control over the device to be able to fault find and correct.

Has anyone else experienced this?
Anyone have any ideas how I can reset the device without a reflash?

Thanks,
Alan
