n800 + t-mobile usb modem uk possible?
ok i have been reading up on n800 and love the look of it and i am buying one in two weeks, that will not change.
heres the one thing i cant find a clear answer too, i have a tmobile usb modem (http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobile...k-USB-modem/p1) now this is theatrical but heres how i see it could work but need advice from you experts first i note the n800 only has a small usb port and to put it into host mode i need an adapter / or run script, the adapter would seem the best idea but i can only find it here(http://www.electronicproductonline.c...oducts_id=1781) anyone know a uk outlet for it or if they ship to the uk? next i note that the n800 does not provide much power, however the tmobile modem has two usb cable ends one specificly for power, so either a powered usb hub or a ipod wall charger (with usb female) port should work to power the device (would that damage the tablet?) for drivers i see (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=551454) post 5 mentions a vodafone app that can be set up to use tmobile.uk with reletive ease (would that ap work on the linux of the n800?) would above work ? if not what are my alternatives? the place im planning to use the n800 most is my work site (im a security guard) so access to power sockets is no problem please dont reply telling me i would be better with a laptop (i cant use one on my site) or an iphone (cant afford the monthly fee plus the n800 looks supperior) i do know in america you can buy an adapter that turns a usb modem that seems semilier to mine into a wireless hotspot anyone know if you can buy something like that in the uk ? or will work with uk usb modems? thank you in advance for any help |
Re: n800 + t-mobile usb modem uk possible?
your problem will probably be drivers, rather than power or connectivity. That's why I use a phone over bluetooth, until they release a self-powered wifi hsdpa modem.

Re: n800 + t-mobile usb modem uk possible?
If it is one of the ZDE usb sticks, you would need to work out the drivers for yourself. There was a thread on the eee forum about setting up scripts to connect with this modem (it doesn't work by default, unlike the u220 3g modem - the curvy one), but it can be done there with a bit of work, so it should be possible

Re: n800 + t-mobile usb modem uk possible?
i discovered something but dont know how right it is .....i can take my sim card out of my 3g modem and place it into a phone and use its connection to surf for free that might be easier and use bluetooth to the phone from the n800 though to be honest i would prefer plug n play of the modem but a lot of linux is above me
i guess im hoping some one who has done it will come here and post how (***wonders if he is awaiting a miricle?***) short of that i gues ill just have to wait till i get one and "play" "self-powered wifi hsdpa modem" why oh why is this not in existence!!!!! |

if so...It would be a dream come true.... Thanks. |
Re: n800 + t-mobile usb modem uk possible?
why use a modem? I use phones over bluetooth and it is fast. I have used a erricsson T610 on t-mobile, and curently a Nokia 6120 on Three.

However, as you say you can take the sim out and put it in a phone, and that is much easier so I would go for that. |
Re: n800 + t-mobile usb modem uk possible?
i thought i would resurect this post as bluetooth to my n91 is damn slow (another thread) usb to my t-mobile modem would be oh so much faster
