Received my N800 yesterday - WOW!!!!

I received my N800 yesterday and thought I'd post a quick follow-up. I could not be more pleased! I flashed it with OS2008 as soon as it was done charging, formatted the internal SD card, and set the swap file to 112MB. It runs smooth, video playback is glitchless (using Mplayer + DVD's ripped to .avi on the external card), audio sounds great, and web browsing is about as good as doing so from a desktop. I was able to get Bluetooth-PAN connectivity through my T-Mobile Dash for access on the go without much trouble - it's reasonably quick and it's stable. I'm very impressed with battery life and I love that it stays on all of the time and uses very little power.

Last night a close friend and I set up a video call through GoogleTalk between our N800's. He and his wife are godparents to my 12 year old son. Yesterday my boy met his godmother face to face (virtually) for the first time. How cool is that?!

While the N800 wasn't necessarily designed for PIM I believe that it will more than suffice for my minimal personal PIM use (business PIM is taken care through my company issued WM6 smart phone and their Exchange server).

The NIT's may not be for everybody but I'm sold!

Wow, you're pretty darn good for a first time user!

Congratulations on getting the tablet, and well done for getting so much out of it so quickly.

Very cool indeed. That's the kind of thing that makes a device like this worthwhile, actually doing something useful instead of just being a toy.

Deaj, Congratulations and welcome! Way to go! The cool thing is there is so much more that these NIT's will do. With a cell phone and my N800, I have an office anywhere. Plus, Skype is saving me a fortune speaking to my friends in the UK. All my "tunes" are on it, plus pictures, podcasts and internet content. The down side is my old Dell Laptop is getting underused. But, the most positive thing has been that this tablet has introduced me to Linux.

Enjoy!

italodance, Yes, charge every day. I even plug it in when I'm at my desk to "top it off" for the next trip out.

Thanks all! I'm pretty jazzed about the NIT. :)

I leave it on all the time and charge it whenever I'm at my desk or in bed (night stand).

Having FM radio on board is just plain cool!

Time for me to go to bed. G'nite all!

Nice to see such good words for the nit's after so much bashing of recent.
There again it clearly says..... do your homework and buy what you think suits best.
There is no use crying over spilt milk!

hi guys.... Sorry to hijack this thread... I m from Singapore... I just got my 2nd hand N800 on the 4th Apr.... I would say this device is really a wonderful device.... the screen is clear and crisp...

I am still reading up on linux... however, just a quick question... cloning OS2008 to MMC card and setting of Swap file, are they the same thing?

My apologies, I was in a bit of a hurry to get out the door and didn't have time to be verbose. Figured some answer (that'd bump the thread back up to the top of the front page queue and hopefully get somebody else to elaborate) was better than no answer.
