ok i love the idea of this device and for purely browsing its gonna meat my requirements but i need a bit of advice,

one of the things i hope to play on it is uplink (man i love that game) http://www.introversion.co.uk/uplink/

there is a linux version on the cd and im advised to copy to a folder and make the uplink file executable, is that easy to do? anyon link me to a tutorial ? anyone played uplink on there n800?

some old games i play (floor 13 for example) will run in dosbox on my psp can i do that on the n800?

any tips for a complete linuz newb? (i say complete i used suse a long time ago but that was all pretty much text based im guissing linuz has moved on since then

Introversion binaries are probably compiled for x86 architecture of processor, N800 is ARM architecture and those two aren't compatible. I am afraid you will not be able to play Uplink on N800 from distributed binaries.

Dosbox is working on N800 and on this site are several threads about various games for it. You should be able to play them.

is there a converter program to convert the x86 to arm ? or maybe a x86 emulator?

No.

That would be Dosbox, as previously mentioned by vvaz. You might look in the Gaming forum for more information, as it holds a number of existing threads about using Dosbox with various games.

Uh. Dosbox is emulator of DOS x86. I think OP was thinking more about Linux x86 emulator. I don't know if such thing exists (I'd like to use it on Windows :).

Verily. The OP stated there's a Linux version of his/her favorite game on the CD-ROM, implying that he/she currently plays it in a non-Linux environment, but hopes that the version might bring joy to an Internet tablet. As you mentioned DosBox, I assumed that non-Linux environment was DOS. That was a mistake.

Checking the game's web site, I now see the game runs on Win32, x86 Linux, and Mac OS 10.2+. Neither DosBox nor Bochs are likely up to the task of running Windows 95 for this game, so it appears Internet tablets won't be Uplinking anytime soon.

In the faint hope category though, the creators of this game have already made it available on the more common, x86 Linux platform and even allowed a Mac software company to make a port. They're clearly open to non-Windows environments, so they may be more likely than many other game companies to make an Internet tablet version. I doubt they'll see enough potential income to invest the time, but it can't hurt to ask.

never thought of asking the company lol i brought my copy years ago and the company is very good (when people started making mods for the game the company patched the game to make mods easier for people to do) i urge anyone who doesnt own the game to try the demo !
i will email them in a few minutes and will reply here with what they say

This game really seems interesting by what I've read. At first glance, I thought it was browser based. I miss strategy game like this in the tablet.

it would really benifit from touch screen as well, hell i brought the game years and years ao and still play it (in windows xp) i have emailed them, not sure how long the response will take. im hoping all the have to do is recompile the x86 binaries to arm? but to be honest linux is such an alien system to me i have no idea how that works
