Missing mkfs.ext2 and mkfs.ext3
Today marks two week of owning my N770. And I'm having a barrel of fun. I installed the software update without any problem. I did run into one problem trying to use mkfs.ext2. Looking in the /sbin directory shows only mkfs.vfat and mkfs.dos. No mkfs.ext2 and mkfs.ext3.
Any ideas about this? Bill Thompson Bangkok, Thailand |
You'll need to get these from the Maemo scratchbox development kit, plus the full version of mount as the BusyBox mount probably won't do all that you'll need - it certainly won't mount 'loopback' filesystems.

I tried to install the following files using the Application Installer. I get an error that the "Component is built-in". I don't see any of their contents in /bin, lib or /sbin.
e2fslibs_1.35-4_arm.deb e2fsprogs_1.35-4_arm.deb libblkid1_1.35-4_arm.deb libcomerr2_1.35-4_arm.deb libss2_1.35-4_arm.deb libuuid1_1.35-4_arm.deb Also, I installed mc, slocate, joe, nmap, dsniff and wirelesstools. I can't find them in /bin or /sbin as user or root. No problem installing and using oggplay, xterm, FBreader and bind. Bill |

You might want to try a find to locate the missing packages that it says are built in. |
My 70-year old eyes betrayed me.<g> I discovered I was looking in the wrong place for mkfs.ext2 and mkfs.ext3. Correcting that mistake made everything comes together. I ran extrootfs and created a swap file. All of the apps that I thought were missing are accessible. Now I'm back to enjoying 770.
Thanks to everyone who posted replies. |

yess, I have got the same problem. and not just that! some more, but related: the story: after installing some apps on a freshly flashed mashine and extending the rootfs by extrootfs and creating the swap file the mashine no more wants to install ANYTHING: error: "unable to install package".. . "package imcompatible", " + I can not eve uninstall thing: "unable to uninstall package" the some apps I installed are xterm, octave, extfs, python, maemodict, andthat's it. of course, tried to do the install with many other packages, and the uninstall ALSO by clicking on xterm, therefore no more xterm, no more way to see what is happenong? DID ANYBODY MET THIS PROBLEM? IS THERE A WAY NOT TO GET TO THIS "unable to.." POINT? thnx, m. |
