Get more free space on /
Hi there ... today i was looking how to free some space on the root partition since it was really low ... I found out that there is plenty of space is wasted in /var/cache/apt/archives. Just cd there and do a

yes ... normally my aptitude clears the cache automatically :)

As root, apt-get clean is the supported way of doing this.

Hey, this is a super tip! I am from the Fedora/RPM world on my desktop, and (up till now) no one had told me how to get rid of old stuff like this :)
I was able to free 58mb off my N800! |

Only applications that are installed by apt-get from the commandline are archived there by the way. Not if you install then with Application Manager. But because Application Manager is so flaky often the only way to install something is by using apt-get.

Do we have files similar to IE temporary internet files that we can get rid off? Thanks.

There is a cache directory for the browser in /home/user, but its maximum size can be configured through the browser options.
There's no equivalent of the ever-growing C:\Documents and Settings\...\Temporary Internet Files and \Temp directories. |
