Another reason Nokia should focus on tethering and software?
Xohm is still pie-in-the sky. http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/S...-Delayed-93257 |

Widespread GSM was once pie-in-the-sky, too.

And "Nuclear energy will be so cheap there will be no need to meter it" was the marketing pitch way back when.
I'm interested in a data only plan since I run my own services. Paying for that at anything close to the crazy prices cell users pay defeats the purpose so it has to be cheap. 3Meg is just about right if I can actually get that speed. Given that I don't hold out much hope for incumbent cell providers giving me simple data at cheap prices so I can run my own phone system instead of buying their services. My other concerns are compatibility across systems. Wandering around home territory is one thing but these NITs are made for walking, and that is what they'll do, one of these days these NITs are gonna ........... :) I checked the local offerings and don't see an option to use my own 'modem' vs their cinder block device. We'll see how it all shakes out. |

It may take time, and maybe it won't be Xohm, but it seems like cell networks will just be a big IP network. I think this is the first taste
