Can't connect to WRT54G

Hi everyone. I just got my 770 a few days ago. I have been using it at work with an old DLink Dl-714P+... I can't figure out why I can't connect with my WRT54G (v2) at home.

I believe I tried everything with the router: reboot, restart, official firmware update, and finally a DD-WRT firmware update. I've also tried open and WEP settings. Nothing.

The strange thing is a Powerbook, iBook, PSP, DS Lite, and Palm PDA's can connect through the router just fine.

I've got the same router, with the same version, running wep. It works fine.

Some people have had to check mac filtering and other security settings to get their wireless to work at home.

I read about MAC filtering too. I've tried it disabled and enabled. Still no luck... and the other devices can still connect.

Time to buy a new router, right?

Like I have the same router and no problems between it and the 770, so an upgrade would be a waste of money. Things to check in order.

When you scan with the connection manager (click on connect) does it show your home network?

If you 770 doesn't see you home network you'll have to check to see if you're broadcasting ssid. If not, you'll have to enter your network by hand. (the down arrow next to the words connection managet --> tools --> connectivity settings --> connections --> new) If that doesn't work check:

Maximum Number of DHCP Users
make sure your key matches for what ever security you're using
wireless macfilter (if using add your 770, if not then it don't matter)

Yes, the home network can be seen (and my neighbor's too).

As for the DHCP Users, it's set to 50. We have three connected at home. WEP keys match, MAC filter is disabled.

Strange really because I can connect to the office router in just a few seconds... which is how it is at home with my other devices.

Can you connect to you're neighbor's network? Are they on the same channel?

It is odd, because like I said mine works no problem

The neighbor's network is secure.

What channel is preferred? It's now set to auto... there are 11 available channels.

I don't remember. I currently have mine set to channel 6 (the router). and it works. Try a couple of different channels and see if there is any change.

oh on the wep key, make sure you hvae key1 = key1 on both devices. If you coppied the wrong key to the wrong spot it won't work either. You might want to have more than one key listed on the 770 to.

Tried several channels, checked WEP keys, inputted two keys actually. I've also tried switching from a hign power antenna to the standard one. Still nothing.

It's becoming a challenge to figure out what's wrong with the router rather than the 770 :)

On a related note, through all this I've installed the DD-WRT firmware in my WRT54G. Though it didn't solve my connectivity problem, it did turn the WRT54G into a full-featured router! (All my other gadgets continues to connect without problems.)

I've decided to get a new router (same brand, and model). I'll update the board about what happens.
