Headphone adapter with microphone $3.85 shipped
Just saw Meritline has an adapter that plugs into the audio socket and provides a place to plug in headphones and adds a microphone.
http://www.meritline.com/earphone-ad...m-mic-038.html I have not tried this but suspect it would work on my N810. Thanks to samjune on Slickdeals.net |

That is pretty slick. I wonder if the answer button (if it has one) works, that is important. This item is similar to splicing in your own headphone to the included headset pendent. Chop off the ear buds and put your own headphone on it. Mic is good and the button works. The cost is right on this one however the shipping and duty extortion would be higher than the item. splicing......

Re: Headphone adapter with microphone $3.85 shipped
Well, I just bought one. Living in the US, it was, including shipping and tax, with some special promotion, a whopping $3.84. I figure I can handle it.
I'll report back on how well it works (if at all) once I have it. |
Re: Headphone adapter with microphone $3.85 shipped
This adapter if it works will help wonderfully with audio quality since headphones will only be connected to the headphone conduits. Thoughtfix posted a post awhile ago wondering about internet tablet sound quality, and people said it would be better if they had a adapter.

Re: Headphone adapter with microphone $3.85 shipped
According to two posts I found in the forums, a headset designed for the iPhone isn't perfect for the N800 since the posters had to pull the plug out by about 1mm to get the sound to work properly. To me this indicates that the plug for the iPhone headset is intended to be pushed in farther than the standard N800 headset plug.
Having said that, if you can tolerate this quirk, you should be able to use other mic/headset adapters like the Monster iSoniTalk Microphone Headset Adapter for iPhone or the Shure Music Phone Adapter for iPhone (both found at the Apple Store for iPhone Headsets.) There is also a Shure model of the Music Phone Adapter for Palm Treo, but I don't know if that would be better suited to the N800 or not. Having said all that, I don't own any of these products so I have no direct experience with them. I would prefer NOT to have to worry about how far the plug is pushed in to make my headphones (and microphone) work on the N800. I guess I'll stick with the built-in microphone until somebody finds something that fits the N800 perfectly. |

Well, it should be easy enough to put a spacer on there, then you'd not have to worry about it any more. Myself, BT happy, so I wouldn't bother, but if you want such a thing, it seems now within reach.

Re: Headphone adapter with microphone $3.85 shipped
I ordered one of these adapters and got it couple of days back. It does suffer from the problem terrencegf mentioned. You have to pull the plug out a bit to get normal sound. There is a little bit of attenuation, so audio does not sound as loud as without this adapter but the difference is minimal.
