This doesn't have much to do with gngeo. It has more to do with the current state of the dumped ROMs. I can tell you what I did. First, I installed gngeo on my desktop. I decided to make it work there first. And don't mess with any frontends until you get it working in command line. I recommend getting it working on your desktop first. I made sure I have a directory for my ROMs, and I have a directory inside that directory called "bios". In the "bios" directory, I have the extracted BIOS files. My gngeorc file (in the hidden .gngeo directory) has the lines: rompath /media/mmc1/roms/neogeo biospath /media/mmc1/roms/neogeo/bios Here's where the problems start. There are numerous versions of BIOS files and numerous versions of ROM dumps. There are old dumps and new dumps. There are MAME dumps and NeoRage dumps. It's a mess. All I can say is keep looking and try different combinations. I think you want the MAME versions, but just keep trying. Try command line, something like: gngeo -B /media/mmc1/roms/neogeo/bios -i /media/mmc1/roms/neogeo joyjoy I can tell you I went through several bios zips before I found something that worked. Here's an interesting part. If I enter the above line, it works. If I enter: gngeo -B /media/mmc1/roms/neogeo/bios -i /media/mmc1/roms/neogeo joyjoy.zip .. it doesn't work. It's very picky. You might want to include the .zip, but don't. Good luck. desiv |
Xgngeo gngeo Get it working
OK, I just finally got this working...sorta.
I am not a linux person and didn't do it cli. I found that all the terminal talk in the threads were either too curt or "linuxey" to be helpful. Watching the video (http://tinyurl.com/5oaevc) was mildly helpful but having to constantly pause a video was pain. This is the NON-TERMINAL way of getting this emu to work! - Install gngeo from app manager. If it doesn't show up go here http://tinyurl.com/5cd7l6 - Install Xgngeo frontend from http://tinyurl.com/6e8v6v - google for "neogeo.zip" (get the one for mame) - make a directory in your SD card with app manager. (example: I made a folder named "neogeo" with another folder inside it called "bios") - take the file "neogeo.zip" and unzip it to that "bios" folder either on your pc/mac or I use Xarchiver http://tinyurl.com/6lzlvv - you can now google for neogeo roms. Some will work some won't. You have no way to tell until you are actually playing them. So grab a couple from different site but take note where you got them from. Leave them in their .zip state, do not decompress! Now, that was just installation and prep. Once I installed everything is where I got the most confused and frustrated. Here are the steps I took to finally get it right: - Launch Xgngeo, in the menu select "Important Paths" -Point the Bios File location to that folder you made earlier with the Bios file. The red dot should turn green. - Point ROM Drivers directory to /usr/share/gngeo/romc.d The dot will turn green. - Gngeo executable should already be filled in and the dot will be green. - In "Global Emulation Configurations": - Under "Audio/Joystick" tab, I only unchecked one thing; "Enable Joystick Support". - In "File"-->"Load ROM"-->"From list" select the "ROM dir" button. Point it to the folder you created earlier. Hopefully you will see at leat one of the ROMs you downloaded show up on the list. The one thing I still can't get working is the preview images. Without them, all the selection menus are squished and small and highlights my BIGGEST MAEMO GRIPE: the inability to resize columns. Anyway, hope that helps and if anyone could help me with the preview image thing, it would be much appreciated. :D |
