Problem revisiting a video link ...
 

My first post!
I have gotten quite frustrated with the following problem with my N800:

An online English video I frequently view (Google Look North if you're interested ... it's in Yorkshire) worked week in week out, but now the video player web link that I use comes up, starts buffering, then immediately says the link is corrupted. I tried not using the bookmark by going to the web site directly for the link; I tried using my laptop to view the video and it worked, but manually typing in the video address that worked on my laptop into my N800 video player still didn't work; I tried deleting the bookmark to clear any kind of cache; I even lost lots of settings by using the Control Panel to do the "clear memory" option ... and I STILL get "corrupted" video. I can view other videos with no problems, just this one (the one I want!) won't work. I believe I somehow have to clear out a memory somewhere on the N800 so it thinks I've never been to the site, but none of my tricks works. HELP! ... and thanks in advance!

... yes, that is the correct link, and yes, it is viewable ... but NOT from my N800 any longer, and I cannot figure out how to get it to not see the file as corrupted.

Install mplayer on your N800 (it's in the maemo extras repository) and start the video like this
The -playlist option is important. Just passing the url to mplayer will not work in this case.

(It seems that something in the header data of the videostream is corrupted. Actually mplayer is also complaining a bit, but then nevertheless is playing back the video. Maybe BBC has recently changed something in the encoding of the stream.)

My N800 Media player plays the .asx clip without any complaints.

The .asx file contains the following url:
mms://wm.bbc.net.uk/england/looknort...th_16x9_nb.wmv

Does that url work better?

Thanks for your suggestions, iskarion and ism.

I am able to get the asx video, but it's relatively crude-looking and tends to randomly quit, plus I can't click on the time-scroll thingy to jump to another time (it's greyed out) ...

I believe one of you is correct (can't remember which!) ... I think the Look North site has changed its video format slightly. I say this because I can view on my laptop no problem, but my N800 has problems as we've discussed, and now my 770 won't open the file (it says my 770 doesn't have the ability to view the video). What's annoying is that another Look North (each is local news for an area of Yorkshire) video stream still works fine. GRRR!

Any further help would be greatly appreciated!
