Mobile phone as a bluetooth modem on 3 network.

Having tried to connect various PDA's to the internet via bluetooth over the years, I was delighted to hear that this was a simple process on the N800. Until I tried it.

I followed my instincts first time and selected the country and provider from the menus, to find that it would not work. Second time I followed advice from the internet (same as my instincts) still using the provided configuration and still did not work. Each time getting a could not connect to the internet message!

I had tried using the cable from PC and the nokia suite to connect to the internet, so I knew that the phone was configured correctly and the account properly set up.

Two hours later and checking the connection data for the 5th time I happened to click into the Access point name field. I noticed that there was a space at the end. Removal of which cured the problem, now all is working for a an additional space.

I hope this post can save someine some time in the future.

Thanks Steve, I've recently purchased a n810, and was considering a 3 network phone. What are the speeds like for web browsing

Hi Stevie

I am limited by distance from the telephone exchange to 1MB on my landline broadband, it is obviously slower than that, but still usable.

I tend to use the Google pages quite a bit, which are pretty big. But even then it's useable.

I find it pretty fast. I also have the three broadband modem which I use on the macbook pro and the eee, and I would say that when web browsing on the N810, the 810 web browser is the restriction rather than the modem speed.

I knew about the space thing, as I found a link about it when I was having trouble connecting (it wasn't my problem but I was looking everywhere!)

Follow the instructions for "O2 (UK) Mobile Web GPRS & Sony W850" on the following wiki.

http://www.internettablettalk.com/wi...PRS_parameters

but enter the APN as three.co.uk and leave Username and Password blank.

I have upgraded to Diablo and it still works fine.

Good luck.

Re: Mobile phone as a bluetooth modem on 3 network.

I recently discovered 3 are port blocking. I could not connect to my Hava or Orb over there connection. After a little searching on the net I discovered this is a common problem. Thankfully there is a solution, if you change the APN from three.co.uk to 3internet you can access both and there should be no ports blocked. I tried this with my PAYG sim which I had a £10 Broadband add on package and could not get it to work with the new APN. From what I have read it wil work with the sim that comes with the USB dongle for PAYG. I have now gone for a contract £10 a month and had no problem changing the APN.
