Setting Windows xp resolution to 800x480?
Anyone know how I could set my pc's Windows xp resolution to 800x480? It'd be handy for VNC. Rdesktop fits nicely on my n800's screen; I'd like to see that in VNC also.
I did a search on google with no luck, though I saw some stuff on registry editing. I'd like to avoid that if I could. |

A program called Powerstrip can make windows run at any resolution.

Thanks, I've been looking around and I'm not so sure it's safe to change the resolution to an unsupported one. I heard it could damage your monitor or video card.

This should not hurt anything.

Re: Setting Windows xp resolution to 800x480?
I wish I could find a way to force XP to use different resolutions for different users. I figured that would be pretty standard by this point, but I can't make it work. Changing resolution in 1 profile changes it for all. Sorta destroys the concept, eh? : /

The biggest problem you will run into is that XP's UI guidelines presume a screen no smaller than 800x600 and many dialogs will be unworkable.

Re: Setting Windows xp resolution to 800x480?
Well, powerstrip doesn't show 800x480 as an option; another program I downloaded told me that 800x480 is incompatible. *sigh* Oh well. The closest I can get is 720x480, which at least fits in the screen nicely.
*edit* Hmm, would it matter that I'm using analog display for my monitor? (which is new enough) |

Ahh, got it working now, thanks to Nvidia Control Panel. Had to add a custom resolution. Works great xD

Re: Setting Windows xp resolution to 800x480?
Just as a side note.
I used to use rdesktop on Linux to RDP into my desktop and it supports custom resolutions, so rdesktoping into your machine at 800x480 should give you the same thing, without tweaking your main machine. I see that Remote Desktop supports specified resolutions as well, so you can probably do it with that: ------------- /w:Width/h:Height Specifies the dimensions of the Remote Desktop screen. ------------- desiv |
