Nokia N800 and Airport Extreme problem
Hello,
I have nokia N800 and I can't connect to my Airport Extreme, in my airport extreme I am using WEP (Transitional Security Network) with a 13 character password, when I try to access the network using N800 it asks me for WPA pre-shared key, once I enter the key it tries to connect but gives me an error message "Internet connection failed. Incompatible network. Try again?" I have also tried WEP but it does not work. The software on my airport extreme is v. 7.3.1 and on the N800 it is v 2.2007.5103. Thank you for any help. Mario |
Re: Nokia N800 and Airport Extreme problem
maybe you should set your router to 802.11g instead of 802.11n. Also have you updated to the latest firmware?

Re: Nokia N800 and Airport Extreme problem
I would like to get an Airport Extreme soon, but have been waiting because of posts just like this one. It seems that other people are having similar problems with their tablets and Airport Extreme. I guess I will wait till this gets ironed out.

Re: Nokia N800 and Airport Extreme problem
You are not using specific MAC address security are you? My n800 is very happy with my airport extreme. Don,t recall the security encrption, but I use an 8 character password.

Re: Nokia N800 and Airport Extreme problem
we have an airport extreme running in 11n + b/g compat mode, WPA-PSK, and it works fine with my n800 os2008, a colleague's n800 os2007 and my old n770.
that said, we've found our AE to be unstable and regularly needs power cycling, but that might be because there's loads of wireless lans around *and* there's a bunch of hairy techy people on the floor above who are probably trying to hack into our network! |

You should set the Airport Extreme to use WPA/WPA2 or WPA2 instead. This part below is for the more technically minded: I checked the wireless traffic using Wireshark (wireless sniffer program). In "WEP (Transitional Security Network)" setting, the Airport Extreme is actually using WEP to encrypt some data in WPA-mode, which the N800/N810 does not support. Some other devices also may not support this as TKIP/AES is usually used to encrypt data in WPA-mode, not WEP. In other wireless routers, when set to WEP, the WEP key is used directly to encrypt data (no WPA-mode involved) which is why they work with the N800/N810. But the Airport Extreme does not support this. Regards, Kam-Yung |
