Is it Nokia, or FedEx's fault?

I just bought a n800, got it in the mail yesterday. Fired it up, os2007 sucked so I up-graded to 2008. Now when ever I install any app (3rd or 1st party) My Application Manager craps everywhere. I went into Red Pill and tried to install the osUpdate (85kB) and i get more errors.
It says that I'm missing a part of a file (something 1.2.4, and i need 1.2.6).

The reason why I think it might not be Nokia's hardware problem is that it was shipped in a box that was nearly double its size, and no peanuts or and foam was in the box.
So today I sent it back. For a replacement. Hopefully this will fix my problem.

Has anyone else had this problem?

That doesn't sound like a hardware fault, and based on your description there's likely no connection between the error and the shipment... so fedEx can breathe easier. ;)

It might have been better to have sought help here for the appman issue before returning the device. I'll bet that another reflash and then proceeding CAREFULLY from that point might well have been the better course. Hopefully your replacement device will be okay.

That is not a hardware problem. That is a software dependency problem. There is a reason red pill is not enabled by default.

Also it is worth noting that the Osupdate package doesn't actually update the system. It just updates a package that is available like an update all for non gui apps.

If you're missing a dependency, then install that file. Free software isn't usually as polished as commercial software, especially the installation features. If you're getting it for free, then you have to invest a little sweat equity.

I didn't send it back yet, i was waiting till i get home from work. I'll try to re-flash it. And i'll stay by it's side the entire time till it reboots.
