Install and run this.

Then connect to it from some sort of VNC client.

Is that different from this?

By the way: the latter one is what I tried. It works fine, except for video overlays (e.g: mplayer). Is there some obscure option to allow x11vnc to correctly serve the video?

(I use habitually the linux version of x11vnc on Ubuntu, and with option -noxdamage I can see an exact copy of the remote desktop, including video and even the amazing effects of beryl/compiz, but this option does not improve things on the n810)

Short answer, no. Long answer, even if you did manage it, VNC wouldn't be able to push it at any sort of workable framerate.

Ooh.. What a pity. I was dreaming about running a vnc client on my laptop, and connect the video output of the laptop to the TV, in combination with controlling mplayer in the tablet via wiimote :)
[Only as a proof of concept, of course. It is easier to play the movies directly in the laptop :D]

Yeah, but what's the fun in that? :D
Maybe you could set up a streaming media server on your tablet somehow? Dunno if there's software available though....
