Motor Trend Gas Price Finder

Ok Motor Trend has a gas price widget that is a a flash file. http://www.clearspring.com/widgets/4...69cfea7ce2186c is the link to it. My question is how can I download just the swf file so I can try and run it on my tablet.

Edit I found a way to download the swf just don't know if it will do anything on my tablet.

You might check this one too:
http://www.gasbuddy.com/

Personally, since I live in Dallas area, I use this:
http://www.dallasgasprices.com/

EDIT: I think this would be very useful app if it can be integrated with MaemoMapper and if it could pull gas station data along the route... :D

I'd imagine it needs an internet connection to get updates on gas prices (assuming it even works offline at all).

I used to use gasbuddy.com but I was trying to find something I can run outside of my browser to get the prices. So I wont have to load the 500 ads on those pages just to get my gas prices.

Is there much point anymore? Prices between stations vary so little now (In Canuckistan at least) that it hardly makes any sense worrying about ~$0.01 or driving an extra block to save it. Save by driving less and not using the drive through. Personally I also stay off highways.

You want high prices, try Iceland. It got so out of hand that truckers staged a protest and road blocks that by their standards they called it a riot.

Then don't load the ads... Use Opera or FF on the desktop to figure out what CSS selectors will select the ads, and
Code:

display: none !IMPORTANT;

Where I'm at in Dothan, Al I can find prices differances as high as 15cents in town and sometimes if I go across the border to GA(only 10 Miles away) or FL(about 15 miles) I have saved as much as 30 cents a gallon. Not sure if its becuase of changes in taxes or maybe just some stations lagging behind in changes prices for a day. I don't normally go out of the way for gas but If I'm going to be on that side of town then I 'll get it while I'm there.

You're probably OK, Andrew, if you're just doing it when there, but FYI:

Watch it going across state lines for gas; in most states, you are required to pay the difference in taxes to your state government (yeah, with extra paperwork) annually. Of course, they don't enforce it for occasional trips, or if you're in the other state to work or something, but I have heard of crackdowns targeting those who habitually buy gas on the cheap side of the border.

yeah I've never really went across the line for it but if I'm coming back from Panama City which I do about once a month I'll stop and fill up before I cross. I technically still live in SC since that is where all my Ids and such are from.
