locking appletas in place?

Is there anyway to make desktop applets unmoveable after you finally get them exatly where you want them?

Sadly, no. Please vote for bug # 2639.

No. Nokia doesn't want you to have peace of mind.

This was one of the few anti-improvements over OS2007, which locked apps automatically.

It's a "feature" Nokia blessed us with. I love seeing people try to defend the constantly moving apps.

I believe the only argument one can make in the current system's favor is that it ended the widespread cries of "Why is it so hard to rearrange applets?" and "Why can't applets overlap?" from the days of OS2007. That doesn't justify swinging as far in the other direction as OS2008 does though.

Re: locking appletas in place?

I haven't seen anyone "defend the constantly moving apps." I do consider it a move in the right direction; the transparency and overlappability is great, and that's the main functionality difference; they unfortunately implemented a wrong revised UI for handling it.

Constantly moving = bad.
Non-overlappable = very bad.

So we're a little ahead, but I don't defend that aspect of it at all, and it's not an inherent tradeoff, so defending the overlappability does not imply any defense of the unlockability.

As far as I can tell, that's (a more verbose version of) the strongest pro-2008 sentiment around; if you can point to some actual defense, I'd be interested. Should be highly funny...

The closest I can think of is a thread where the issue was brought up by akd, and Texrat, Rebski, and I responded with what was taken by some to be, but was never intended as, a defense.

It will get fixed, eventually... Trust me. :)
