Wow, not really my taste, but I could really see the potential.

So I wonder, is that merely a Photoshop job then? I suppose if you could get just the faceplate inhand perhaps some laser etching could be done along the lines of the image, giving it that decorated but somewhat monochrome look.

Is the faceplate aluminum? If so, perhaps it would take to anodizing, assuming that it won't be negatively impacted because it is so thin. If it is aluminum, you could easily get something custom ano'd for a reasonable price for something that small. For that matter, I'm surprised one of our own community members hasn't already offered that service if it is feasible.

Obviously the potential dangers of disassembly to that level could make some folks reluctant. If we could get spare faceplates galore then I'd be more apt to put tools to mine since I only have one N800.

In the end, with some time and research you could ano it yourself, just be careful!

I like it, though I couldn't use the silicon skin I have now.

I'm pretty sure it's steel, not aluminum. Bead-blast and black-oxide might go real nice, though. I'm gonna take mine off to time it.

OK, ready... set... go!

26 seconds to pull out pocket-knife, bump three tabs loose, and flip face-plate off.

Reinstallation time:
24 seconds; this is just a little more touchy, because you have to align the keypad...

See thoughtfix's instructions, pictures, and video, if you want to try it. I do this routinely to clean the screen under the bezel edges.

No powering off required, mine was playing music the whole time.

Same here. But watch out when you push the tabs on the bottom of the faceplate. One of those got bent, but luckily it was the old one i was replacing.

I still think 770 housing is the best.
