Slackware on the N810 ?

Hi,

Do you think it is possible to install a brand new slackware 12.1 onto the N810 ? I am lost and feels naked without it :)

So what ? Possible ? Crazy ?

Regards

Not readily; you'd have to recompile everything, unless there's an ARM port of slackware I'm unaware of.

Cool, so there is a hope !

No, there's not a hope, practically speaking.

Have fun at getting it run on N800.
(It's still very much work. And because there's already Debian, nobody will do it. Install Debian and configure it. There isn't sooo much difference between normal Linux distros)

I am pretty sure you never have touched a slackware distro then. There are so many differences, you can't imagine how different it is to use a vanilla slackware distro compared to a poor-quality distro such as Debian.

I am truly curious, can you explain? I have no experience of slackware.

What I can imagine: Different initscripts. Different package building. Some different configuration (and here you don't have to do much with Debian, because everything hardwarespecific should be configured, as the image is extra for the n800), etc...

That are all differences that shouldn't affect you great, while you use your tablet.

Also I don't see why Debian should be poor quality.

Slackware is the only linux distro I like(d) after coming from freebsd (new laptop (then) wouldn't run it).

Slackware makes so much sense and is so easy, at least to my mind. Still my favorite of all I've tried. Prefer it so much to debian.

I wish it was the dist running on the n800 but it isn't...

I've run Slackware and much prefer Debian because of its broader selection of software. I'm running Sidux now and it's also very fast.
