Step by Step instructions to install xmms
 

I have been trying to install xmms with not much luck. I got stuck in first step off adding the responsity for xmms. Can someone please give me exact step by step instruction on how install xmms and get up and running? I have OS2008 on a Nokia N800. Thanks.

Once you've got the repo in, you just go through installing packages through the app manager. Start with xmms; that should be sufficient to get up and running. Once you've got that, I highly recommend at least installing xmms-control; this allows you to use the same command to start xmms or to recover it from minimized:
Stuff that in some convenient method of launching... (Personal Menu or osso-statusbar-cpu are my picks.)

(If that's not helpful, you'll need to be more specific about what trouble you're having...)

/me also recommends installing KotCzarny's build. Some fixes and a cleaner method of launching.

I was having trouble adding repo itself. Can you give instructions on how to add the Repo and install xmms? Thanks.

Using the tablet's browser, go to http://www.gronmayer.com/it/ and type xmms in the search box. It'll search for repositories containing any packages with xmms in the name. The repository that should come up is debfarm.free.fr; clicking the green install arrow should install that repository. (Well, it'll prompt you to save or open, choose open, then app mugger will come up, prompt you to make sure you really want to, and then it'll install the repo...) Afterwards, xmms &c. should show up in the list of all installable apps, down quite near the bottom.

Benson, that helped alot! Thanks! I got xmms working, however I still have some questions on xmms usability/UI:

Any way to get Xmms to act like other apps and move the background when I use another app (like web browser)? It seems to be always on top, even though the option isn't checked. Also, the Switch App key doesn't list Xmms anyway to fix that?

Also, I stalled the skins using app manger for xmms. HOwever the xmms skin browser doesn't show anything in the directory. How do I get these skins to show up?

Also, I hoping there is skin out there that helps Xmms looks better. Normal size is too small, but double size is too big. I can hardly see some of the buttoni n normal size. But double size the Main window takes up all the space.

Found another problem. The volume control in Xmms seams not to do anything. Any idea if I need switch to another plugin or something.

Heh, saw another annoying UI problem. The time counter doesn't change when playing songs. It does change went skip forward/backward or new song is played. Any help on this one?

Hey i need some help with xmms. I installed it but i have no text for the buttons or anything and the player is really small. Are there anyways to fix these problems?

Oh i get no text in the preferences either.

Any help appreciated :)
